Do you make characters that look like you?

Fun question. When customizing characters (usually RPGs), do you make your characters as close to your actual look as possible? If so, why? Or why not?

I've never paid much attention, but now that I think about it, I usually do to some extent if there's no good non-human option. Shoot, even when I play a female human I make it as close to what I'd probably be if I was a girl as I can. It's easier for me to relate myself to a pale, dark haired average height guy than to a dark, light haired giant.

nope, I try getting the farthest away from regular choices, on WoW I played human due to the racial spell and changed the skin to an undead (undead paladin looks funny as hell :P!), it's boring to get to play the usual race and identifiable characters
Cod has a new campaign, new weapons, new multiplayer levels every year. Zelda has been recycling the same weapons, villains, and dungeons since the 80's. Zelda recycles enough to make cod blush. The same weapons, villains, dungeons, and princess in every single Zelda for the most part. It's almost as cheesy as bowser vs Mario round 35

No. Considering how many times my characters die... I'd rather not.

No, because I don't consider my characters' me. They are their own self, with their own story so I make them as unique as possible. However, seems I have a red head fetish....make a lot of characters red heads. >_>

Yeah, usually I try to create a character that looks as close to me as possible - after all he's my alter ego, no?
My Blood Elf Paladin resembles my girlfriend, though.

Last year's i've been playing alot of online survival games , then i usually make black skinned character , cause its harder to get spotted then / better camouflaged in forest envirement.
In real mmo games i usually pick a female character wich used to look like a girl i used to date ( sounds pathetic).

Not really. I do tend to spend a LOT of time on character customization and go crazy with it in games that allow it, but I never try making one that looks like me. Course, it's not really an option in a lot of games anyway. I'm more of a tall/skinny build.

No, never. I usually try to make them as plain and/or ugly as possible without it being "unrealistic" (so no 2ft long noses etc). A lot of my characters also look old when the option is there.

In games that have a more extensive character creation process i usually spend a fair amount of time in it, but no i do not aim to make it look like me.

I used to try, at least as far as I could.. hard to make a female troll that looks like a human =P I used the hairstyle I mostly wore IRL until I got bored and they added the barber shop. Mostly now with games I dont.. I just make a cool and fun looking character and usually go for a different look that the white woman I am (example the last toon I made looked Egyptian and the one I made in Neverwinter looked African).

nope, usually my characters tend to be very different from me. often my first character will be female, if multiple races are available then it won't be human either

Maybe half the time. My first two major Warcraft characters I tried to get as close to my hair/facial hair as I had at the time (or a significant hair style I'd had previously). I've even lamented that I can't make my gnome have the same facial hair as me. And way back in AD&D, my character had a similar hairstyle/beard to me at the time.

In games that allow me that kind of customization I usually make a character who looks like Ron Perlman.

It was amusing every time a friend caught me playing Mass Effect. There was always a "Hey, wait a minute..." moment.

I just hit randomize once and hit play. Never cared about what a character looked like.
I support a cash shop in WoW!

Yeah, or at least the way I would want to look were I a member of that particular race. They way I see it your character is an extension of yourself within the context of the game, it's the main reason I can't wrap my head around rolling against your gender.

I don't make them look like ME, but there is a certain template that I seem to subconsciously follow when creating human-like characters. A lot of them end up looking the same and an overly limiting creator, especially one with bad beard options, will be an instant turn off to a game for me. (see also SWTOR or Rift)
