    TWC internet issues.

Hey guy, currently right now we pay for 50 download and 5 upload speed through timewarner cable. Typically when I run a speed test I'm at around 53-55 down and 5 up. However, recently my internet seems to have slowed down significantly. I started to notice when I would start lagging for 30 seconds at a time in dota 2 matches a few days ago. It's less severe for other computers in my home but nonetheless, they're lagging too. I was lagging probably about a month prior to the significant lag spikes, but it normally cleared up.

Here are some speed test results:

    Worst:

    Middle/average:

    Best:

top 2 for each selection all taken within the last day or 2.

Basically my question, how can I go about troubleshooting my internet connection without connecting directly to the modem/router.

I assume using traceroutes and ping tests through command prompts? How would I recognize issues through running tracerts or ping tests? Any tests that I can run and report back to here that would help? btw I'm not very smart when it comes to command prompt so telling me exactly what to do would be great, thanks.

    Things I've tried:
    Changing wireless internet adapters
Moving a signal extender closer to my computer
    Scanning for viruses
Reformatting my computer (was going to anyways).

Will try to connect directly to the modem/router later.

And now I seem to be steady at 55 down and 5.5 up. What is going on? I've changed nothing

and now it's starting to go back down slowly. It'll start at 30 download and slowly move up to 45ish then go back down to 40.

btw I understand that wireless connections aren't as reliable as wired but I've never really encountered this problem before. It's as if something is interfering with the connection.

I'm actually getting good download and upload now but higher ping. 22 to be exact

Unplug the router, plug the computer directly into the modem. Speed still up and down? Call TWC, make then verify your speed. If that seems to be fine it's your router.

buy a new one, get Linksys or D-Link (despite reviews to the contrary). I suspect the router, but need to verify your direct connect shows the correct speed..

Then there is a small disclaimer.. you are not guaranteed those speeds those are UP TO.. hate that, but that's how it works. Thats why you need to prove to TWC that you are not getting the correct speed.. it may be up and down but it should be pretty near what you pay for.
