Retired Florida Police Officer Shoots a Couple For Texting in a Movie Theater

"The argument reportedly broke out before a screening of "Lone Survivor" at The Grove 16 Theater in Wesley Chapel, north of Tampa, when the suspect and his wife complained to the couple in front of them about their cell phone usage.

"There was an altercation because the victim was using his cell phone. He was texting. He was making a lot of noise," Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco told CNN. "This led to a verbal altercation, the verbal altercation escalated." The suspect. a retired police officer, pulled out a handgun and shot the two victims. He was detained at the theater until the police arrived."

I've asked my fair share of people to please be quiet during a movie. Like I could care less BEFORE the movie which is what this article says happened? Hope the guy enjoys some time in prison cause someone ruined his before the movie experience. Some people in this damn country are just too trigger happy.

I really wish theaters would more aggressively enforce a zero tolerance policy for cell phone usage. If you can't do without your phone for 1.5-3 hours, don't go to the movies. If it's a genuine emergency, excuse yourself, leave the theater, and handle your business in the hallway.

Regardless of how you feel about cell phone usage in a theater, no one deserves to die over something so trivial.

This story has nothing to do with cops, just an ex one. There's nothing else to this story to tell us why he's an ex cop. For all we know, he was kicked out because he couldn't pass a mental test and had gone off the deep end.

Just another example of the media making the cops out to be the bad guys. Sure, there are crooked cops, but there are more good ones, just doing there job and not abusing their power.

Most theaters do, but the problem is you have to get up, find an usher or a manager to come into the theater and lay the law down, and that's usually more disruptive than the idiots on their phones. You can do the same with loud kids or teenagers, etc. But again, it requires you to leave the movie to get someone working there to do it. They don't have staff in every theater monitoring things.
