    Beware of Mail in rebates!

Sometimes you might look at a piece of hardware and go: oh nice price however check before if its not a crappy mail in rebate.

while these rebates sounds like deal, They aren't. They waste time, printer ink and post stamps.

I had 4 of these on my last build, 3 were accepted within a month and a half with a status update.

1 prepaid card got here a month after (props to Antec)

the other two seems to be lost in the mail or they simply forgot to send them but its gonna be my job to run after it.

and the last 1? They decided to decline it without providing feedback, email or mail. So now you realise you paid waay too much for a crappy part since the rebate of 25$ was the only reason you got that brand. Thank you Asrock and Vuugo for this life lesson.

so 1 out of 4 worked! amazing!

I usually just ignore mail in rebates, for the reasons you stated above. I had one that was like $50 so I sent it out, I eventually got it after I forgot about it (about 7 weeks later). But overall for a $10-15 rebate I just totally ignore it.

the thing that makes me mad is for the price before rebate I could have had a better brand OR a bigger motherboard instead of a micro atx. The selling point was the 25$ mail rebate and nothing else.

I've never had an issue with them. I must have sent in 40 or so over the past 15 years. I just follow the instructions and track them.

I just ignore them when pricing parts. If they actually work and I get the money great, but if not than I don't feel like I got cheated since I wasn't using them as a factor.

lol what is Vuugo? Never even heard of that brand. I have a feeling ASRock will talk if you call in.

I've sent one into ASUS and got it in a couple months.

If you're depending on rebates then you obviously should not be buying those parts in the first place, considering it would seem you don't have the money to spend.

I will just pop in and say avoid DIY-PC rebates like the plague. They deserve the bad-talk.

I have handled somewhere between 300-400 over the past 8 years. I think I've had one or two declined. Just like 'customer reviews', people only complain about the bad times, and never the good.

You are in the US though dealing with US company. I'm in Canada dealing with US companies. pretty sure I don't have the same legal power as you vs them

I'm not just complaining about the bad, I praise Antec for that awesome fast mail in rebate. just really sad that 3 out of 4 didn't go well, I got the pieces assembled next day after receiving them and got all the mailing and paper ready while windows was installing mailed the same night. followed all the instruction to the letter.

in all honesty I probably got lucky and got some dummies worker at the rebate center that didn't do their job well it is still annoying.

Vuugo is the Canadian pc part shop that sold the part with the rebate.

No, you're just impatient and jumping to conclusions. Vast majority of rebates state 6-8 weeks. You've only waited a hair over 5 weeks, and are now complaining because they haven't instantly gotten to you. Here's your thread from 7 weeks ago:

    http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/...0-budget-build

You likely didn't get the parts until 5 days after and mailed the rebates to the US. The US based addresses likely didn't receive them until at least the 14th of December (you waiting for parts, weekends and mail time from CA to US).

if i buy something that has a rebate of 25 dollars, i just look for something that is 25 dollars more expensive. the up grade is usually worth it. i never buy something specifically for the rebate. if anything that should never even be considered as a selling point, only an additional bonus.

I ordered 25th, had everything by 29th. was put together on 30th the date I realised people were linking windows 8 and I bought 7 (as I was installing it) also the date I Mailed everything that same date. its already been 7weeks.

now that I reread my first post its pretty confusing I admit. Antec approval was within 3 weeks, mailed the next and received 5th week (a month)

Gigabyte was accepted 2 days before antec still no news.

XFX was approved 5th week and no news.

Asrock: we are on the 7th week, I go look at the progress of it online through their website and it says not applicable/declined

wow I might be going full retard here. anyway my beef is with Asrock

So the mail instantly got to the US based rebate center? 30th was a Saturday. There's 2 days burned already. Optimistically it was received by them the following Mon/Tue, which was around the 7th. Today is January 20th, 44 days later. A day over 6 weeks.

So again, you're being impatient and expecting it faster than they state it will get to you in the first place.

Fact is: it was declined without contacting me about it.

How do you know it was declined if they didn't contact you?

I've only had a couple declined before... if they do, they tell you. If they don't, they either A) Didn't receive it (mail problem, contact them), or B) you didn't get the decline letter (mail problem, contact them).

Simply waiting, not getting anything, and complaining, guarantees you wont get a rebate.

A lot of the rebates now you can have within like 2 weeks if you pay the 2 dollars or whatever for rush processing. And you really don't have to pay this they just take it out of your rebate. So, if you were that impatient, you probably should have done that.

What is the point of rebates anyway? Seems like a waste of time for both the buyer and seller.

Get you to buy something that looks like a good deal and hope you don't fill out the rebate.

Yeah that do make sense, still seems an unnecessary burden for the buyer :/
