Super Bowl XLVIII has been declared a level one national security event.

Somehow the super bowl is a national security event.

"NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) - Super Bowl XLVIII has been declared a level one national security event. Part of that security is to examine every item that is being brought in for Sunday's big game.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents will work around the clock to X-ray every delivery truck and any other vehicle authorized to enter the MetLife Stadium complex for anything suspicious.

"We are looking at all of the information and see if it has an effect on any event related to the Super Bowl," Aaron Ford, FBI special agent says.

Probably means some groups have called that they're going to attack it. Makes sense. Even inciting a minor panic in a stadium that full of people will cause a Hell of a lot of death.

Shit you could probably get some people killed setting off firecrackers in just the right place. Makes sense.

  3. #3
Don't they do that every year?

  4. #4
Good? Who do you think is paying for this? Not the NFL.

Is this shocking? I mean the Super Bowl is one of the biggest events of the year in the USA attended by up to 100k people and watched by millions more at home.
Get a grip man! It's CHEESE!

    And you're surprised why?

When a group (Or groups) threaten a high value- I mean public event, the security services have to take that very seriously; In the event they don't and something occurs they'll be the first to fry.

Confused as to what purpose this thread serves though, what debate were you looking to create here?

Just gonna go out on a limb here and say, those folks in the stadium, folks with loved ones in the stadium, folks that don't want to see other people hurt?

    You know, via taxes.

One of the biggest televised events of the year, shown around the world, that totally doesn't sound like somewhere someone would want to bomb to make a statement or anything like that.

Why is the tax payer picking up the tab and not the NFL?
How long until they deploy tanks and full military troops for every event cuz terrorism.

Because there are American citizens under threat and its kinda the governments job to protect them? Is that really hard to grasp?

Right, like that's stopping anyone from walking in..

These guys walk past security, even stating they don't have tickets and that they are sneaking in, and security lets them walk by.

    You're actually asking that question?

    Really?

My mind is blown, are you the kind of person to count nickles on the side walk and tell old people to hurry up and kick it too?

Why are you sensationalizing this? I bet you are one of those people that cries about everything.

Damn them for not putting enough security --- if something happens.
Damn them for wasting my tax money on enforcing security for 120k people --- this being your argument right now.

You just can't please anyone these days.

If they are under threat maybe don't have the event?

Probably because it's taxpayers' lives in danger. And the NFL is, in part, picking up that tab because, fun fact. They pay taxes, too, both as an organization and as individuals within it. Who'da thunk it?

Because the risk is small and the cost is high. Even if something does happen, it's unlikely that the NFL will lose a whole lot of money, because who is going to blame a stadium for a terrorist attack on that stadium? An attack would probably bring Americans closer together, if anything, which would result in more patriotism, and possibly even more football - if only in honor of the dead.

So really, there's no incentive at all for the NFL to pick up the tab.

Ignoring the petulant aspect of your post, why?

Why should they not have the event?

Why should people, whom pay taxes, not attend an event dedicated to a sport they love; Why should they bow down to whatever threat elicited this response.

    Your rationale for why?

    MUH MONIEZ.

    Not convinced here pal.

"Super Bowl cancelled due to terror threat".

You do understand that would be seen as a victory for terrorism yes? A sign that terrorism works and that people will give in to demands. Are you seriously that dense?

Fuck it, lets close down all air travel while we're at it.

So just deploy troops in the streets at every event, tanks etc.

Makes sense to me, especially given the location and its proximity to New York. If someone could set of a major terrorist event at the stadium a large chunk of New Jersey would be lost, and then we'd be stuck fending off New Jersey refugees. Sounds like a legitimate national security event to me.
