Fuck those poor! If they can afford lunch (even though they can't legally have jobs) then they should starve to death. Maybe if our students saw other students dying to starvation due to their (parents) laziness they would boot strap themselves into being rich. Pretty much all restaurants do the same thing though. At the end of the night they throw away unused food.

Unused prepared food that has been out to long and/or can't be brought to temp fast enough for health codes. Most restaurants donate food they won't use to charities.

When I was a kid, I had to lie to get lunch because my mom wouldn't give us lunches and wouldn't give us money and yet, I didn't qualify for free lunch.

When I was in high school, we gave food away. Kids would freely take what others wouldn't/couldn't eat and no one would care. If you asked for food nobody would give a shit about giving anything to you; whole lunch, half eaten lunch; bag of chips, fruit, whatever....

Fuck, I was poor. Half the time I lived off of people giving me half their "pasta line" (pasta salad or pasta with sauce). I literally survived by eating off other people plates. Since middle school I learned from the other poor kids to beg for change too. Ten cents here and 5 cents here added up to getting a side with your meal ever other day!

God forbid, when I'd take a hand full of change to my mother and ask if we could afford cloths so the 'other kids' wouldn't make fun of me for wearing 'scum clothing'.

Schools are so ridiculous about their rules. When I was in high school someone dropped off some macdonalds or BK or some shit during lunch for their kid as a treat and the school confiscated it and threw it away because it doesn't meet their 'nutritional standards.'

I lied from 6th to 9th grades (and beyond that, but once high school hit, it was a different story) about the price of school lunch to my parents. I was 11 'FUCKING YEARS OLD' and I knew my parents couldn't afford those prices. I also knew that getting 'free lunch tickets' would socially ostracize me. What choice is that for an 11YO? Eat or have no friends. I lied to everyone and hoped I could (scrounge) get enough food(money) so I wasn't hungry. That's one hell of a way to educate children.

I'm sure fucking glad my friends didn't care, because they all knew (on one level or another). Thank god they didn't give a shit about money.

They seriously waited until after they served those kids lunch to figure out who owed or not? This is how bad planning turns into looking like assholes. Sure they want their money but they shouldn't do it in a way to embarrass those kids. Couldn't they ummm I dunno take it up with the parents or send them a letter telling them if they don't pay (insert reasonable amount of time here) their child will only get fruit and milk until the bill is settled? I guess having some compassion and using your brain is hard for some people in Utah?
