Outside of being bashed with it's tail fin that thing won't hurt you.

You should be more worried about the Candiru.
9 out of 10 people agree that in a room full of 10 people one person will always disagree with the other 9.

One of the biggest things in the ocean and it eats one of the smallest things in the ocean, might slap you around a bit but I doubt it would try to eat you.

Oh, how to ocean fascinates me... I wish I lived there. Imagine what a beautiful and different world there is down there.

    It can't eat humans...

Whale sharks are not dangerous for human beings, on the contrary. Though their mouth is about 1,5 meter wide, the opening to the stomach is very small. So, they are not able to swallow a human body. Whale sharks only live on plankton and krill.

Seriously? Those things are harmless as kittens. Less even... because if a kitten were the size of a schoolbus it would still be a carnivore. The most dangerous thing about a whale shark is the risk of getting smacked in the face by its tail as it ignores the shit out of you.

I don't really find them frightening, they're just so big and cumbersome that they seem slow and clumsy but gentle. It's anything our size or larger than us while maintaining agility you have to worry about.

    Pfft.

I can tell you exactly what it's like living down there.

Not to forget that you will never be remotely close to one unless you actively went searching for it (ala guy in the picture).

Regular sharks are a much higher danger than a whale shark, but even then they aren't really much of a danger (especially if you live on the west coast of Australia since they're culling them. different can of worms there). Then there's blue ring octopus and box jelly fish, but even they are in specific places that are well documented so you know to stay away.

The oceans are massive. The likelihood of anything getting you in the tiny section of water you're in is extremely remote.

Just looks like it's smiley for the camera to me

They're harmless to humans, there are definitely other things in the ocean you should be more worried about...

The whale shark might generally be docile and harmless, but that doesn't mean it couldn't seriously hurt you.

I'd still love to look at a whale shark up close, what an amazing experience it must be.

They have grabbed diver's feet and pulled them under before, but it seems to be more of a playful gesture as they released them shortly after...Probably not realizing we can't breathe down there :|

That pic re-affirms my feelings of 'f the ocean'. I don't want to destroy the ocean just... it's not my cup of tea and the big shit down there just freaks me out.

Aww, it just wants to say hello!
