Harassed online?

So, I was just visiting another forum and there was a topic "have you been harassed by any other member here". It was closed soon but in that little time I managed to get into fight with a couple of people.
Basically it was about me saying "I wish I was, it's not possible to be harassed online", then people proceeding to call me either a troll or dangerously naive and new to the internet (yeah lol, 10+ years of experience, including some of the worst troll sites, guess I'm really new) and when I asked for some real arguments, it was something like "they can hack you, steal all your personal info, harass your friends and family, find you irl" yada yada...

Now my questions: first of all, is this oversensitivity some kind of American thing?
Second and more important: have you been harassed online, and what have they actually done? "Offended you" or "made you feel uncomfortable" don't count. Only looking for real cases.

Other than that, yes, I've had some fucked up people actually go and look at an application to an old guild I had been in like a year back, back then, to find out my name and call me irl and threatening me. Never put my name in applications since then.

Once when I was playing Star Trek online, this random bloke took a special liking to me and was suggesting some pretty outrageous things. I thought he was just joking and playing around so I went along with it for a while, after a few days he had himself convinced that I had asked him to move to the UK (he was american) and move in with me, he then started to threaten to kill himself in fleet (STO guild) chat. He was kicked from the fleet, I blocked him on chat but being a free to play game he just kept making random new accounts and bothering me all the time, it got to a point where I did not trust any new player in the game and I had to quit playing.

TLDR: Stick to subscription based games if you want to avoid loonies.

Yeah Ive been harassed. Normally I'd put them on ignore, but its typically a bad idea to ignore your role (heal) leader in the guild and Im not going to let one asswipe force me out of a guild Id been in for years.

Harassment is a thing, regardless of how you personally view it.

Yeah, true story... doesn't apply to my case though, the people there are mostly 30-40 years old and if there was one little teenager trying to bully anyone, he'd get booted fast... Still wondering what did I say wrong.

I'm with you because I cannot understand how you can be harassed online. I'm a hardened old guy but when I see pics of Facebook chats where Person A is insulting Person B ... and Person B responds ... just why?!!? Someone on Facebook calls me a name... Blocked. Some new friend insults me ... Delete. Person trolls you in WoW ... Ignore. So many options yet people somehow wantingly succumb to abuse AND join in on it when they don't need too.

I once linked Mooneye a full body picture of myself naked (I used Paint to cover personal area though), but i'm sure she was too late to click the link before i removed it. Was up for about 20sec. Your loss for being slow blue-eyes.

2. The American comment isn't necessary. It's stupid to assume all Americans act the same as each other, in that we are all over-sensitive. Sensitive people live everywhere....that's just common sense.

That's what another guy in that thread said though, he was an European too. I know sensitive people live everywhere and not sensitive people live everywhere too, but saying that it's exactly the same everywhere just for the sake of political correctness is foolish, when there actually are differences.

I hear a lot of chicks telling stories like that and always wonder why it doesn't happen with me (the second part though. First part does but only when I ask. Hurr durr).
I've been online for quite some time and always been really open and all that stuff. I wonder if the perverts have some kind of radar that tells them which girl would feel harassed by them, and they would not bother with the ones who don't?
