OMG what did MS do to Windows ...

WTF is this shit?! Where is my Start Menu? The Windows 7 one was fine.

There is no option to go back to the Win 7 UI? In XP we could go back to the Win2k UI. Even in Vista you could drop back to Win2k UI.

    Why MS? Why?

Sorry, need to rant a bit ...

Its not bad at all, its just new and i needed some time to get used to. There are programs to emulate the start menu. Just google it and you will find a couple.

I think Windows 8 is the best, most fluid operating system ms has made yet.

i used windows 8.1 for a couple of hours, fast but too many driver issues, had to go back to 7 until more hardware is supported.

Yeah windows 8 is not for me, have to use it on my works sever computers as well, it's awful. As others have said, there are easy ways to emulate windows 7, I'd try some of those if you're stuck with W8.

I have windows 8 on my pc and love it. My girlfriend updated to 8.1 and has a few driver niggles so i am not upgrading just now and suggest the OP does the same. You will get used to it in a few days and then it will be like you never used another MS OS

Shifted back and forth between Windows 7 and Windows 8 like ten times, driver problems with 8 constantly made me switch back. Made a final switch and everything is fine with 8.1 and I'm loving it.

I hope this is just your initial impression on a store-bought computer or something and you didn't hop on the upgrade bandwagon because "Ooh! New and shiny!"

A little research goes a long way.

Windows 8 is far superior when you get used to it.

W2k themed UI, big difference. Doent mean things will be where you expected them to be. I have gotten used to 8. I dont really use the start menu anymore and do what I mostly did in Win7 by using the run/search function in start. 8.1 put a visable start button back and added shortcuts to things I find useful from shutdown to management options which I felt was one of the biggest pains in 8.0.

Where? I rather have something official than some 3rd party tweak.

Stay in Windows 7 until Window 9 arrives.

at least you can talk yourself into it, and then pretend the metro ui and the missing start menu are really great things! haha.

i work in the IT department of a school we just switched from windows XP to windows 7 last summer. Trust me when i say most businesses will skip windows 8 and will stay with windows 7 till the next OS comes out.

I agree. I don't upgrade until at least half the market has the new version. Even then, I somewhat believe in the "every other version" curse. I skipped right over Vista and didn't get off XP until late 2010. It's going to be at least another year or so before I make my final decision on 8.

I don't care about the coloring and stuff. But the disappearance of the start menu is distressing. I can search easy from the start menu. Now I got to mouse over the corner, wait for the list bar to come out, then click search. The start menu allows me to put the 2nd more frequently used stuff on it. This stupid fullscreen thing lists all the apps on the second page ...
