Should kids be banned from museums and galleries?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/m...m-museums.html

    What do you think?

Not sure if anyone heard about this, some child cosyied up on and had a nap on an (apparently) $10M sculpture.

I've seen the sculpture its not made of harddrives or platinum. Its not worth 10 million dollars Looks like shleving units, no surprise the kid couldn't recognise it as art

But yeah, we've got an eclectic bunch on MMO, what are your thoughts?

This, exactly. Parents should start parenting right. That's about it.

Plus art should be a living medium. A child (not shield -.-' ) sleeping on a sculpture seems pretty poetic to me... Art in the art... My brain ! It boils !

Art galleries, sure. I hated getting dragged to anything like that.

But kids should be encouraged to visit museums.

    yep,I agree.
I mean maybe some kids would really enjoy a museum. I know I did, when I was a kid. Not an art museum mind you, a history museum.
Medieval armors, swords etc, the good stuff.

    Nope.

It'd be a shame to ban children from places of culture, what's stupid is the fact that Parents have little or no control over their spawnlings. But I suppose that's what happens when you make society accept that it is neither the Childrens nor the Parents fault, it must be the systems! There wasn't legislation in place to prevent this great tragedy.

    Better write some up quickly!

Kids are probably the most important reason for museums to exist. Galleries, maybe not so much, but even then in general there is no way children should be blanket banned. What's wrong with putting up a ribbon around the display like up to this point?

This is what happens when you stop putting the fear of pain into kids.

Don't ban the kids, just beat the parents in front of the kids. There has to be bruising at the least.

This. Children should be introduced to art and museums at a young age.

It is young children that are more open to art and science than the adults. We should focus on proliferating that amazing curiosity and amazement the little buggers express.

They are the next generation after all.

Nope, parents are there to stop the kids doing stuff like that.

I would, however, pay more to be guaranteed a baby-free flight.

If kids are banned from museums, how am I supposed to show my niece how fucking awesome dinosaurs and science are?

Should kids be banned from culture centers of learning? No of course not.
Should parents learn how to actually parent? Yes.

Amazing sig, done by mighty Lokann

No, because children need to experience art, culture, history and science from a young age so it gives them a lifelong passion. Parents just need to control their kids better. I loved going to the Natural History Museum in London as a little boy.

Subjecting a baby to changes in altitude should be considered child abuse. They make Greyhound buses for a reason. If you can't plan far enough ahead to take a bus or leave your child with a family member, then you shouldn't be allowed to fly.

How is this even classed as art? It's even titled "Untitled 1980".

That's just a glorified shelf. I don't blame the kid. It looks boring enough to sleep on. Hell, I'd sleep on it.

As much as I don't like children, I think museums are more valuable to curious children than anyone. My opinion on this has always been, and remains, that there should be one kid-free day per week.

No banning kids from places of knowledge and wonder and mystery is just a horrible idea. Parents need to learn to control the kid.
