"The PS4 Appeals to 'Swing Gamers"

    http://dealnews.com/features/The-PS4...rs/990561.html

Interestingly, 44% of the 1,700+ respondents in our survey noted that they owned both the PS3 and Xbox 360. This is likely because those consoles have been around for so long and prices have dropped tantalizingly low in recent years. As such, this would suggest that almost half of console gamers are familiar with both platforms. And while they might still prefer one over the other, the competitor was not foreign to them, likely making it easier to "jump ship" if there was a good enough reason to do so.

Thus, we looked at how these "dual owners" behaved in the face of next-generation gaming, and as it turns out, a higher percentage opted for the PS4 vs the Xbox One. (35% vs. 23%; see the results above.) The number one reason for their selection? Specifications, perhaps latching onto the assertion that the PS4 has a better graphic output. Moreover, a slightly higher percentage of former Xbox 360 users made the switch to PS4 than the reverse; 8% of PS3 owners bought an Xbox One, while 14% of Xbox 360 users bought a PS4.

Its a relatively low sample size, but imo its shows what I think the majority of people are thinking at this time; and what we will see down the line(in nov/dec).

I owned just an Xbox but went for PS4 just because, well, Microsoft at E3 2013 was just beyond silly, I couldn't have anything to do with that. Lower price, and a chance to play the playstaion exclusives (if and when they come out with a way to play previous games, or make sequels).

New consoles are just PC with custom OS now, so PC master race anyone? I know they cost more at first buy you get tons of discount games that makes up for expensive games later. Consoles might be fun if you're social guy with lot of friends, but face it, we hardcore gamers don't have any/many friends, so why pretend
Well that and console does not require to install OS, but steam os might fix that.

Microsoft fumbled Xbox One, plain and simple.
You're getting exactly what you deserve.

I owned a PS1, xBox, PS2 and an xBox 360 and I've honestly just enjoyed the PS experience more. I bought the 360 on a whim from a friend that was selling it, three controllers, about fifteen games and some other accessories for the games for $300 and I played it maybe 50hrs? I like the PS exclusives, like Kingdom Hearts; which is probably gonna be one of the main reasons I buy a PS4 down the road. I just don't feel compelled to buy an xBox since it's mostly like... whoah FPS games and sports. Woo-freaking-hoo.

you guys are really boring with your constant PC mater race comments, we are discussing consoles here, probably most of us owns a PC anyway so nobody cares.

'specifications' can mean more than just assumed slight graphical superiority. I know for my wife, and myself, that includes that connect 'always listening, always watching, always on' crap. We also don't have nor want cable, so all that shiny cable tv (filled with tons of advertisements and repeats you pay a shit ton of money for) features mean nothing to me. Connect is a feature or 'specification' that I have no use for, and is something that made my wife decide, who preferred the 360, to -never- want one.

What will we get if we get anything other than our PCs and tons of old consoles? Wii U first, PS4 if we feel it is worth it down the line.

Also, comparing end of cycle numbers vs early adopter numbers is just plain silly. I'd be more interested in the numbers after about 2-3 years when a larger percentage of people will have made their decision and before time and price begins to bring more dual console ownership into the statistics.

I just feel this poll can be nothing but inaccurate, and mostly pointless. Not to mention sample sizes that low are not very representational of a whole 1-2000x larger.

PC fanboys makes me lough sometimes
funny thing is they think PC is just a PC and compare it to console, like nothing changed in their setup over the years.
Dude I own PC since I was 16 (now I'm 32), and I spent so much money on "high end" graphic cards that were useless 1 year later, I had to change processors, motherboards, RAM, HD drives, basicly everything many times, that I had to say "enough is enough"
Console is a blessing compare to that bullshit arms race, I buy one little box and I'm fine for next 6 years.

I know things changed a bit nowdays, technology is so advanced there's not much room for improvement (npcs in games looks almost real), so it slowed down, but there's still over 1000$ graphic cards, how the fuck you want compare that expensive monsters to consoles that cost less then half of it.

You certainly don't need to have the latest and greatest to game on a PC. I'm still rocking my 560 ti...which was like $250 in Jan of 2011 when it came out. And still playing all the games I want to play just fine. Yes, if you don't want to deal with upgrading...ever....then consoles are the way to go. But you are giving up a lot of performance in the very near future. To where you won't match what a PC gamer will get in the same game. Look at Skyrim as a perfect example of the huge performance differences between PC and consoles from last generation on the same game.

(would also just like to add that I play on both, but for performance, your never going to beat the PC in the long run)

Makes everything you said totally and utterly worthless.

High end graphic cards do not get replaced in a year. Ever. You didn't have high end graphic cards or you're lying through your teeth. RIP the clown.

i dont know one high end card which went out of date after one year.. and you know what? you can sell that card and get an upgrade relatively cheap. I dont have to pay £30-70 a year on online services, i get my games for less than £20 brand new, get better sales, more sales and unless you trade in EVERYTHING within the first month or so of release the cost is about the same.

I can bet I will be playing latest games on my PS4 5 years from now, that won't run on your current PC, it's just the way it is.

Neat. So you think consoles are better because you like to waste money.

I tried to sit on my couch and play in comfort on my PC but no go. Disadvantage - 1

I'm beginning to think the PC master race is not so much about the superior platform but more console envy.

You do know you can hook it up to a tv and use a controller? And what envy? I have them all.

Really? oh wow! *rolleyes* Like you're the only one.

What I don't have set up is a means of doing everything from my couch.

And I also have them all. Every console there ever was, under my TV. Or maybe I'm BS'ing like a lot of people just to support my argument.
