What's the best country in the world to live in and why?

Note: don't introduce nation-bashing into this, be civil, and don't get this thread locked like my past 1975195276189561928561892526 threads. ty

Even as an American myself, I would have to say Canada. It combines the best parts of the U.S. with the best parts of Europe, and as a result, it's an amazing place to live in. The western provinces aren't even that cold, usually. Vancouver typically has good weather, or so I'm told.

I think this depends on your profession and goals in life. Right now, for me, it's probably still the United States simply because our research funding far outstrips other countries, while cost of living is fairly low. This allows me to have significant academic freedom while living quite nicely.

I could certainly see preferring somewhere that's more cycling and pedestrian friendly, like the Netherlands though.

United States has a few major flaws that cross it off my top5 list.
No universal public health care (seriously, the only country in the world that doesn't have free healthcare for everyone, what's up with that ?).
    Legal guns for everyone.
Politically active and target for terrorism.

Personally I would prefer some of the small and wealthy countries in Europe. No wars, noone hates them, no natural disasters etc.

Depends on who you are. If you're a religious Arabic young male, it's Saudi Arabia.
If you are Japanese, then most likely Japan. And so on...

Narnia. Definitely Narnia. They've got like a Jesus-Lion guy who, unlike the actual Jesus, is kinda awesome.

I doubt there is really any way to determine just one, there are many good countries out there and eventually it will just come down to which of them people prefer. That said, I would vote for Canada. :P

    But overall Costa Rica wins
There's one thing in Sweden, that's better than in Denmark, though.

I have to call bullshit to any scale that claims Iraq has happier longer lives than the UK and the majority of the world.

What I meant is Sweden has better neighbors than Denmark.

Perhaps some lessons in reading are in order ? According to that website, UK has "experienced well-being" 7.0, while Iraq has 5.0 and UK has life expectancy of 80.2 while Iraq has 69.0 ?

Iraq scores high because it has very small ecological footprint. It is a scale of "Happy PLANET Index" after all.

I guess reading is in order where you need to notice Iraq is on higher HPI than most of the world.

Well....pretty stable here in Scandinavia. I feel fairly lucky for being born in Norway. Low unemployment, "free" education and healthcare, good social safety nets, safe/clean streets. Less distance between the classes, by that I mean there are no slums, but not really any super rich havens with grand palaces either. I guess that sounds a bit bland and boring
