Which European country is the most famous?

Out of all the European countries, both in and outside the EU, which do you think is most recognised around the world and why? As an American, my vote goes to Germany because it has produced many great scientists and engineers and has the most population. I think it is a major influence inside the EU too.

    Currently, or historically?

If the latter, the British Empire; It's hard to deny it's previous influence when it was ruling a quarter of the world, and a fifth of it's population.

Currently though, i'm siding with Germany, the U.K is vastly diminished from its former power and influence but is still wielding considerable influence.

UK or France. Because they are very prominent in history starting in the middle ages and remaining relevant til now.

+France, UK, Spain, Italy (all roads lead to Rome after all) etc?

I find it hard to guess at most famous

Germany however wins as most unfairly infamous i guess

As an American you did not think of the UK or France? The USA would not exist were it not for these countries.

I'd say the UK, or as the ignorant like to call it: England.

    Yes, I'm bitter.

As a european, I think Germany, but I can see how ppl outside of the continent think France because of Paris where is featured in so many movies.

Never though of UK because they are a island, and maybe this will make alot of controversy to me feels like they are a just a US trojan horse in Europe.

Ill smck u in the gabber m8.

I was overreacting a bit - but it does annoy me a little bit when people can't distinguish between England and the United Kingdom. And 'British accent' is the most annoying fucking phrase ever.

You were right. Although I need to ask why you think that?

France is the most romanticized by Americans. All the little girlies want to visit France.

Most of the eastern Europe countries, and the people within, praise Germany...so I guess that's the most popular here.
I would add Italy/Spain on second place as many eastern Europeans emigrated to.

    San Marino.

Not entirely sure it's in the EU though, or in fact whereabouts in Italy it is, but it is a legend amongst nations.

Seems ppl in UK dont like/want a united Europe.
Sided with US on the Iraq and Afgan war.
The politicians seems to be very pro US and never question them.
Refusal to accept some ISO standards like the metric unit measures.

    just to point a few

This is what I get from being on the outside, ofc its not the sentiment of every UK citizen but as a outsider and observer it what feels to me

Speaking of Europe why do we never speak about Belgium ? Ive seen almost every other European country named on these forums but I've never seen a thread about belgium.

The whole question is vague and pointless.
All European countries have long and rich history. You can't just pick one. And this whole thing gets blown out of proportion if you start discussing semantics. Who is what and when and how and why.

For example if you look at what is currently known as UK.
Is it "British" (aka modern English+Welsh+Scottish+Irish) history? Or Roman? Or Viking? Or Celtic? Or Gaelic?

Because beer and chocolate don't need a thread.
