I know you said your Brother-in law didn't want to spend any money but what Edge said really is the best bang even if he only does it for one month.

Once thats over, he'll drop back to preferred having spend at least $5 with those few extra perks as well as for a month getting all the benefits of a sub (using all gear, no credit cap and no exp limitation plus rested exp)

During that time he should be able to buy the tokens that removes most of the restrictions when he drops back to preferred. If he saves his credits, he can get those off the GTN (auction house) in most cases. As long as you're on a decently populated server, there not to bad in price and depending on how many toons he wants to play, he can buy the unlock for the entire account and not just per toon.

Of course most of that depends on how much he plays in that month and how much he saves/spends. Since there is no longer any training costs, thats a huge savings just on that.

and like Edge said, there really is no reason to not have an authentication on your account (unless you just have no way to do it) it's a free 100 coins a month plus access to a specific vendor for having it as well. Even if he skips months at a time playing, he keeps getting the coins.

If you don't spend a minimum of $5, you wont be preferred. At least thats how this reads:

"Make any purchase of $4.99 to upgrade to Preferred Status!" That could be something off the cartel market or just one month sub. Just have to spend $4.99 or more and I don't think 7 free days counts towards that at all.

pretty much this, its kinda gimped if u do not sub ,but ,if u dont want to just pay one month for sub and go prefered after

They must have put a stop to this. I never used a referral before and just tried the most recent 10 of so that were posted and all said that account is not eligible to refer someone...something to that effect.

I successfully did a referral yesterday on my old account. Unless they just stopped it today you may want to ticket and see what's making you ineligible.

You have something making you ineligible or the codes you used are no longer eligible.
