    Upgrading GTX 560 ti

My MSi GTX 560 ti is getting old, I play pretty much all games with mid-to-high details (1920x1080@60fps vsync), but far from using the ultra settings. I want to upgrade, but I'm not rich enough to buy a GTX 780 (hehe). What would be the best upgrade for me here? The GTX 660 doesn't seem that much of a boost... GTX 760 would maybe do it?

760 would do it, or sit tight for a little longer and wait for the 8xx series to land. Prolly only a cpl months away from that. Mobile 8xx series is already out, so the desktop variants should be arriving soon.

Cuz screen tearing is UGLY, and since my monitor has a limit of 60fps, if I can run a game without screen tearing at max fps, I don't need more fps!

Screen tearing? So you probably have a 60Hz Monitor and you always have above 60fps even while raiding or doing Ordos?
Cause if you go 59 fps in game at some point then your fps will automatically go to 30fps with vsync.

    - its easier to type /console maxfps 60 than use vsync
    - you dont need a new card if you are always 60fps :P

I'm not always at 60fps, I would SO love it if I could. Also vsync doesn't drop half framerate when it goes lower than 60 (as it's been for several years now), while maintaining no screen tearing! I just want MORE details, without a frame drop.

Which games are you expecting a performance boost by upgrading to a 760, and what hardware is it going to be running with.

So? Does it justify the upgrade?

This will probably determine that. Upgrading from a 560ti won't help much with WoW.. But will with other games.

This forum isn't about wow. Yes mmo-champion is mainly about wow, but it's also featuring other games hehe. That being said I *do* play WoW and I've never been able to get a constant 60fps all-the-way, and I can't nor will achieve that with a GTX560 ti unless I go low-to-mid details, but I want the exact opposite! So it doesn't really matter which game it's for, the goal here is to push for more of everything.

I could add it's on my even older i7 920 oc'ed @ 3.7Ghz. Now you could argue that the GTX560 ti could run WoW @ max details with a constant 60fps if I had a new computer system, I'd be surprised but it's not impossible.

Other games I play are Diablo 3 and the many racing games out these past 3 years, none of which I can run @ max.

That right there is your main problem with WoW FPS. Not the 560ti. However yes, a GPU upgrade will be needed for other games, and a CPU upgrade needed for WoW/MMOs

This is why I asked. That CPU is the bottleneck in WoW. Yes it's still an 'ok' CPU, but in terms of IPC it's matched by AMD's FX series, and almost doubled by Haswell.

Shop around and buy a 7970. Ive seen them going for $200 sometimes. Way better performance than the middle of the road cards available now for cheaper

Yeahhh no. You aren't going to find any for $200. They retail for $450, and nobody is going to sell for cheaper than that with the crypto-craze (Cheapest on ebay is $350, unless you want a janky one). Show me one for $200 and I'll probably snap it up asap.

Also gonna move this to the build/upgrade subforum!

Ok, let's say we're talking about upgrading my gaming rig, while keeping the GTX560 ti for the moment: I'm still on a very tight budget (hell, I'll have to get a freakin loan!), I would want a significant upgrade while not breaking the bank. I want to stick with Intel, I guess I'd like usb3/sata3 ports, I could reuse my current Antec 300 (small though).

What I should go for, for lets say... 500$? (not enough?)

At this point we're looking at a partial/full build, and I think it would be best if you filled out This Sticky to indicate exactly what does and doesn't need buying.

Sorry for the delay... Ok here we go! I want an almost complete machine here:

Budget: My initial cost would have been not to go over 500, but realistically I'd prefer to not go over 800.
    Resolution: 1920x1080
Games / Settings Desired: WoW, Diablo 3, multiple car racing games / High to ultra
Any other intensive software or special things you do: I do video encoding ALOT, bluray/tv/video games captures
    Country: Canada
Parts that can be reused: For now would only keep the GTX560 ti (oddly, considering it was the first thing I wanted to replace in the first place hehe)
Do you need an OS?: No
Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc)?: No

I was told of the i5-3570K, which sounds like a good upgrade for a 6 years old system (and can at least last 4 more years), I would go for that. I don't need tons of memory, I guess the usual 2x4GB would do (are there good budget ones?). Need a motherboard for that, saw an ASUS P8Z77-V which the price I found is a little bit steep, or is it just what I need? (I would like an eSata port on the back, I'm using a NexStar external hdd dock) And finally a power supply to complement that. I don't intent to overclock much (that cpu can do 3.8Ghz?), I know in my current system I got a 500W with wattage to spare.

So, cpu/mobo/ram/power supply is what I need. I've been looking into casings, I found the Fractal Design Define R4 absolutely perfect for my tastes! Someone knowledgeable can tell me what pieces I need, and the price range it would fetch? Thanks!

NCIX and Memory Express Canada both had them listed from $239-$279 with $40 mail in rebates. That was a few months ago though. Guess the bit coin miners have snapped them up!

It might even be worth just just getting another cheap 560ti and Sli them. If your running one 24" monitor @1080p 60hz it would be fine for 99% of games

Unless it's really dirt cheap it's not worth it. 1GB VRAM simply isn't enough in new titles to crank up the graphics, even at 1080p. My old setup's 2x HD5850 1GB could easily dish out 50+ fps in BF3, but the lack of VRAM caused unbearable stutter.

Let's argue this isn't about upgrading my videocard anymore, and just plain buying a new system *without a videocard* hehe. Oh pretty please.
