What do people have against the battle.net launcher?

This is something I just don't get. Ever since I heard about the launcher I have loved having it. The ability to have all of Blizzard's games under one launcher/manager has been awesome. Knowing that the launcher has tied itself to my computer so I do not need to authenticate on a regular basis, including pulling up my account management page from the launcher. Not having to wait on patch days for the patch files to download (in recent memory hearing my friends/guildmates groan as they had to wait while the D3 pre-expansion patch had to download and knowing that mine already downloaded without me even playing it recently so I could jump straight in). Being able to see which of my friends are online in each given game before I log in is also pretty nice. The only thing the launcher does is quality of life improvements, so I do not see why so many people have so much against it. It's as if these people don't like Blizzard trying to make it easier and more convenient to get into their games.

I know some people like to complain just to complain, but it seems pretty extreme in this case.

Yet another origin/steam like thingie that thrashes your registry, might not be resource hog but it adds up. So yeah less programs I have on my pc the better.

Really just seems like one of those "don't tell me what to do" situations.

Honestly I was laughing about the people complaining in the WoW forums.
Some people were like "What's wrong with just having to click the game and start it up"
They do realize you're doing the same, except it just looks differently?

I understand some people on the other hand would just use the .exe to start it, but geez.

The only thing I have as a complaint about the battle.net launcher is that you can't chat with people that are online on your friends list, that would be cool.

I was wondering the same thing when I was reading the blue posts the other day. The launcher is great.

I made a post about this yesterday. On the blizz forums someone was like its condescending and w/e that blizzard feels the need to clean up my icons on my desktop. Blue responded with I dont give a fuck what your desktop looks like we just consolidated our launchers. you can make icons and put them as you please if you want.

Bliizzard: Im sorry I annoyed you with convenience. :/

because it has exactly zero purpose and it's one more icon on my taskbar that i don't want, I really don't see any benefit of it at all, like seriously if someone can give 3 proper reasons why that launchers existence is justified than please go ahead and convince me. Also for some users (like myself) it causes authenticator problems. So i get dc'd mid game and have to enter the authenticator code again twice, once ingame and once in the launcher, which is such fun during a raid encounter, i don't even want to think about how many wipes that shit has caused already on progression fights.

Except you're NOT doing the same. It's clicking launcher vs. clicking battle.net, wait for it to start up (which takes longer than booting wow for some reason), and then click launcher for the actual game.
They've just added another unnecessary step to the process, which no benefit to me but wiith apparently good advertisement for themselves.

I used to struggle with wow crashing during boss fights, and battle.net increasing the boot time by 300% really fucked me over. Luckily i found out i could boot it with a different launcher in the folder that skips the whole battle.net client, been using that ever since.

Not really. I agree whole heartedly. I don't like having programs for the sake of having programs on my computer; and that's exactly what launchers are.

Now that every game imaginable is tied to a launcher (origin, steam, battle.net, minecraft, yada yada) soon you'll need a launcher launcher to organize all of your launchers. Or we could just take a step back to a simpler time...when I knew what program I wanted to run, so I ran it myself. Instead of clicking on a launcher, and then selecting it in a launcher.
Because at the rate it's going, in 2020 if you have a power surge in the middle of the raid, it won't be like in 2010 when you could have just rebooted double clicked WoW and logged back on like a bat out of hell... No... First you have to wait for all of your launcher launcher launchers to load so you can select the appropriate launcher launcher so you can boot up your battle.net launcher and then launch WoW.

So Blizzard should stop all software developments (changes, improvements, etc) because your computer has issues? On a well maintained, perfectly working computer (mine), the launcher makes it faster to get into the game -- faster than clicking the .exe even.

wait can you not just run wow.exe or wow64.exe anymore to go straight into game?

and i agree they are just unnecessary except for patch days.

I suppose if you have it set to close the launcher when you launch a game I can see how that would be time consuming; I have mine set to stay open and it actually makes it faster to get back into a game when a game crashes/DCs (click 1 button and the game launches and goes right back to my character select screen). Usually takes me about 10-15 seconds from the time of DC to the time I'm back in game.

I like the launcher.... >_> I only need to authenticate once for all my blizzard games.

And I can close WoW do something else, then play WoW again without re-authenticating.

Also WoW always had a launcher...now its just a launcher with more games attached o_o

I'd say it makes it a lot easier for Blizzard to organize their games and launchers. Instead of having 4 (5 with HotS) different game launchers, they have a universal one for all of them. I find it quite useful as well. Seeing as how much functionality it gives (and will give with the chat they are implementing), I am glad to have the battle.net launcher on my computer.

The thing I don't like is when I have a hearthstone.exe shortcut and I launch it what happens is. Instead of launching the game it redirects me to the launcher and then on the launcher I need to hit "Play" Why do I need to do this extra step? why not have it so I can hit a desktop shortcut and in the background the game will load the launcher and hit play for me? Does blizzard feel the need an extra confirmation that I actually want to play hearthstone.

Anyway I still think launcher is better than no launcher because I no longer need to enter my password every single time I log into wow.

I can understand not wanting in due to only playing one of their games and not caring about the rest but I personally love the launcher.
