    Really?

So I entered my College English class, sat down, and a friend of mine behind me told me something funny. So I laughed and kept smiling a little bit after that. During this the teacher walks up to me and says ''Get that grin of your face or you can leave''.
I told her I was happy so I was smiling. Then she got really mad and I had to leave class. I now have to wait 2 hours before my new class starts and I have fuck all to do.

    Hooray, education is amazing.

If your semester has just started, and you don't have to have that class, at that time, taught by that professor, leave. Sounds like you're in for a world of pain otherwise.

Failing that, ask to meet with the professor and discuss the situation, explain your side of things and demonstrate that you weren't screwing off or being disrespectful. If you think that the meeting might not go we then beforehand ask to meet with an advisor, discuss what happened and mention that you want to meet with the professor and ask if the advisor will sit in, or assist you. Perhaps even knowing that you considered the issue serious enough to take these steps will ensure that the professor doesn't try to screw you without reason.

If you can though I'd just transfer out, doesn't sound like a class I'd want to be in.

She clearly wants the D, but you weren't giving it up.

Ask to meet with her privately, then put your hand over hers and ask her what you can do to help her 'understand' the situation.

Was it DURING the class that this happened? You should be mad at your friend, not the education system or your teacher. Tell him to stop distracting you during class.

This thread just makes me glad that I don't have any friends to get me into trouble!

Drop her class, and get on backup lists for several other credits that can help you.

    Do it now.

So you behave rudely to a teacher and then you get all self righteous when you are faced with the consequences of your actions?

Education is a privilege that most people on this planet are not given. Stop acting so entitled, grow up and learn some manners. You are in a situation that is 100% of your own making.

90% of the responsibility for obtaining an education lies with the learner. This is your failing, not the system's. Instead of blaming the education system, you need to learn the lesson here, but it seems to me your ego is more important to you than a desire to learn.

Free tip for next time: Joking around in someone's class is rude and disrespectful. Plain and simple. Next time try apologising instead of being cheeky.

Everyone has their bad day. Maybe there was some little twat who was an asshole before you and tried to push teacher's limits.

    Chill, she's only human.

I also have to agree with Raelbo. You acted rudely.

Or, you know, apologise. It's by far the simplest course of action and by far the most likely to be effective.

Don't try to justify or explain or get into a debate about it. Don't escalate it and get other people involved. Do you really think the teacher will suddenly realise it was her error and take back what she did? Of course not.

Clearly the entire story and full details are being explained here.

He should apologize for laughing and smiling before class started? Really?

He was in her class. She was there. Clearly she took offense to his actions. Regardless, his response to her request was rude, cheeky and disrespectful and therein lies the real problem.

A quick, "sorry ma'm" and him getting into a bit more of a serious frame of mind for the class that she is waiting to start would have efficiently diffused the situation.

Instead he chose to act belligerently, thus escalating the situation. His fault.

You were in the classroom and sat down. You were on her time. Doesn't matter if the class has "started" or not.

Apologise. Even if it isn't for smiling, because answering her back like a shitbag makes you look like a shitbag. Just explain what happened and you're sorry if you annoyed her. Surprisingly, you're the -only- one that loses something here. She'll be paid regardless of your attendance. You've already said the class is mandatory so you can't drop the class, so either apologise and have a decent year or get ready to be her number one target for shitstorms.

This would indeed be the normal response for an adult with proper social skills. If you want to come across as a spoiled brat with narcissistic and/or antisocial character traits, then by all means respond as he did.

this is why I didn't like school and didn't attend for most of it, teachers screw with you all the way through, they are about on par with police officers hiding behind some twisted sense of superiority complex. I told plenty of teachers to go fuck themselves. never got in trouble that often though strangely enough, but i would not conform.

like others have said the best thing you can do is to sit down and ask why she decided to whip out the ban hammer over something so trivial, in the end she probably just didn't get none the night before, which makes sense. or better yet try to not smile and look at your teacher, they will do whatever they can to fuck with you whenever they get the chance.

No doubt he escalated the situation but the idea that he is immediately on her time prior to class beginning if he is in his seat is nonsense, at least in every class I've been in, in fact it's common for students to converse before class begins.

Why do in general we not want students talking or laughing during the class, because it's a disruption to the class, if there was no class going on I don't see how this could be the case unless he laughter was especially raucous.
