When I lived in the Boston area, I would always order the slowest shipping from Newegg. They usually shipped from Edison NJ, which is a 1 day trip for even 3 day shipping rates. As others have said, arrange for alternate delivery if you're not gonna be there for the package, or feel it will be delivered unsafely. Pretty simple.
