I find this plausible. Just ask any NES player how often they've flung the the controller across the room.

Oh man, Battletoads...what was it, stage 3? The first time you had to do the dodging walls on the hoverbike routine. 7 year old me uttered many a screech at the TV back then...
These days I put whatever I'm playing down for a break long before I get to the controller-throwing stage, though.
Oh man... when I was doing my last rep grind for Justicar as Alliance - it was Silverwing... which meant pugging WSG as Alliance.
Now, keep in mind IRL I'm a pretty big optimist and promoter of light-hearted humor and fun. ^_^
By the final stretch I was the most raging hysterical pessimist ever, punching walls IRL and just AFKing in corners yelling at people....
When I finally hit exalted (thanks to my guild helping me out after a mass nerdrage session I made in Guildchat) - I LITERALLY went and made myself two Rum n' Cokes just to calm my nerves down and to stop my hands from shaking. >_<
So....frustration causes violence?
Why even bring video games into the equation? Frustration with ANYTHING can cause violence.
Well of course.
I was playing Skyrim, level 10, in a draugr dungeon and this Draugr Deathlord comes at me with an ebony waraxe. AT LEVEL 10. (Generally ebony doesn't start showing up until level 20+, maybe higher) So he just keeps one-shotting me while I try to figure out a way to kite this guy around. By the time I got him killed I was angry and frustrated. I didn't break or throw anything or yell, but I did swear a bit.
Oh I should also mention that this guy had friends too, another Draugr Deathlord with an orcish bow and a Draugr Wight that summoned Frost Atranarchs. So yeah, the three of them were fucking me up.
But the thing is, once it was dead, I cool off pretty quickly so I didn't go shooting a school full of innocent kids. I just decided that Solstheim might be a bit too hefty at the moment for me so I went back to Skyrim proper to level up.
And besides, I got a sweet ebony waraxe off of him so now I'm running around with an OP weapon (for my level) and enjoying it while it's OPness lasts.

I agree. Many of times I have put an n64 controller through the tv.
I've hitted some hardware out of frustration before, only when alone though. If theres people around I tend to just curse the frustration away...then again I think most people do.

Aye, the research was worth every penny.
Broke your controller? Pfft, I broke the whole fucking system; ran that bitch over with my KITT pedal car, after Donatello got waxed in that fucking dam one too many times.
Fuck Nintendo.
9 out of 10 people agree that in a room full of 10 people one person will always disagree with the other 9.
The title of the subject is wrong. They are saying that frustration is potential factor, not the sole cause, something that isn't exactly ground breaking. I actually just carried out a dissertation on video games and violence and had to remove frustration as a possible outside factor by setting games to easy. Any frustration increases levels of stress and in turn can cause aggression. In fact I even mentioned a possible increase in aggressive behaviors in online play such as LoL where your rank is determined by who has the most retards in your team, thus increased frustration which is linked to increased aggressive behavior.
My study supported the majority of the literature, showing that violent games and violent music exposure increased levels of aggressive behaviour.
Since no study has actually been able to prove that, and most thorough ones point to the contrary, I'd love to see your statistics/proof.
I'm surprised you haven't published, actual proof would get an article in newspapers across the globes.
And in the case of LoL, that just proves that the behavior of other humans that directly affect you can also cause frustration. Not exactly breaking new ground here...

Oblivion on 100 dif. slider---- Have fun .
Don't sweat the details!!!
I shown a direct link between priming effects of violent media and also a regression model showing increased aggressive behaviour with the more hours participants played violent video games per week. This isn't new nor was it the main hypothesis of my study. Most don't point to the contrary, like I said, I just wrote a dissertation about it, I read over a hundred published papers on the subject. If you would like, here is the latest meta-analysis on the subject released earlier this year - Greitemeyer, T. & Mugge, D. O. (2014). Video Games Do Affect Social Outcomes: A Meta-Analytic Review of the Effects of Violent and Prosocial Video Game Play.
How do people become violent? Are you proposing all violent people are genetically at a predisposition? Learning through the environment and social interaction is mumbo-jumbo?
