    Dating: Do Teeth Matter?

Okay, so before I actually meet this guy, of course I creep his Facebook profile (very unique name, not hard to find at all). He is hella cute, but then.... his teeth. GAH! Gum to Teeth ratio 3:1. And his teeth aren't that pretty either.

Up to you. I think bad teeth is kind of a sign of being lazy and not taking care of yourself. If you don't brush often enough, do you wash often enough? Having low down gums, or high up lips or whatever so you have a gummy smile is... personal preference really. Some people don't like it, some people do. If you like it, then don't worry about it.

Technically, teeth are on the inside of the body so it would matter.

I am in Ky, we have a fairly bad reputation with dental hygine. Now I am not sure about how attractive it makes a male, but when it comes to women its not something I notice unless they are missing or the wrong color.

Yes, yes it does. Yet I'm a very superficial person when it comes to "mates", personality is second to me (except for a few extremes). I feel like taking good care of ones teeth is the least you can do.
They don't have to be colgate shining though, just not black/yellow, anywhere inbetween proper white and colgate will do, colgate is the best though!

    Are you 13?

You decide whether it matters for yourself. You already did say the rest of him is quite attractive. And it sounds like you haven't even met him yet..

For me it depends on the teeth. They don't need to have a magnificent set of pearly whites, crooked teeth can sometime be a turn on for me actually (you can't see it in my avatar but the girl in my avatar has slightly crooked teeth and they're cute imo, here is an example)
But then something it goes a bit too far and yea a turn off. Totally down to the individual. Of course yellow/stained teeth are a turn off too, and I'd say gum ratio is 100% personal preference but for me I don't like too much gum in a smile.

When it comes to teeth, I'm willing to look past any unnatural or awkward shapes if the teeth themselves look cared for. In other words, the person obviously brushes.

Teeth that are shifted or having a high gum-to-tooth ratio is something I see as being out of that person's control. Yes, they could get braces or something of the sort, but it's just such a hassle. And if they aren't experiencing any discomfort with their bite, there's really no point other than having the look of straight teeth.

However, oral hygiene is an absolute must for me. I don't expect perfectly white teeth, but at least make an effort to keep them clean of food on a daily basis.

As far as I'm concerned, if a person cannot put forth the basic effort it takes to brush their teeth at least once a day, then that says a whole lot more about how they care for the rest of their body. But as long as it's clean, I can deal with a jacked-up smile.

Teeth don't need to be perfect, but if they're yellow, very crooked, or missing, I find that to be quite an extreme turn off.

only Americans are superficial about teeth. Bristish, Japanese are perfect example of people who doesn't give a sh*t about their teeth. I've also dated women from Europe and middle eastern and I have to say they may have nice teeth but their breath smelled like sh*t.
We didn't wipe 100 times. We just found 100 ways how not to down a boss.

I wouldn't mind, my teeth aren't perfect as i have one at the back missing (cracked straight down the middle when i was like 12 and had to have it removed QQ) however i brush daily so i would expect someone to have that level of personal care as well, if you brush daily i don't care about unaligned teeth or the shape/size <3

If it's anything like below then yes i would run for the hills :S

I don't think that's really true. There are plenty of Americans with bad teeth, and plenty of British people with really great teeth. I think mine are pretty okay and I'm British. I had an ex who insisted on brushing immediately after everything she ate, to the point of carrying a travel toothbrush and toothpaste in her bag, in case there was an unexpected snack during the day. Obviously she wasn't representative of all British women, and nor am I, but equally you can't make sweeping generalisations like that about entire nations.

It's a sign of being extremely lazy and a good indicator of their personality.

It's not hard to spend 2 or 5 minutes brushing everyday.

It would help if you showed us a cropped image though so we can only see the teeth.

Oh ffs bro... a warning next time?

I don't think I've ever seen anything on these forums that turned my stomach so quickly. I was just getting ready to go to bed, too. Looks like I'll have to find some earth porn just to get that image out of my head.

Bad teeth are an instant turn off for me, especially in a country that will treat them for next to nothing.

Assuming ur not from the 3rd world, so ur country has a dentist and dental care, bad teeth can only have 3 causes:

    1. Hygiëne. Would you date someone with poor hygiene?
    2. Mental instability (afraid of dentist), in which case they probably have alot more shit going on.
    3. Disease / genetics. In which case it's totally not their fault but its still a turnoff for me.

It is a stupid out dated stereotype mostly spread about by people that have never left their own countries.

Teeth SHOULDN'T matter if it's a simple issue of a gummy smile or crooked teeth. If the guy has rotting teeth and/or persistent bad breath - well, yeah, hygiene matters.

Assuming you're looking for a long term relationship, it's naive to think that what you see is what you're always going to have. If you make a pretty package your first priority, you're going to be disappointed when those looks disappear and you're stuck with a person that perhaps isn't very likable or compatible - and I'm sorry, very rarely are people the "whole package" - there's usually something majorly lacking in one area when they are uber gifted in another; being super hot doesn't tend to help a person develop their personality or character, because we shallow humans treat the beautiful people like they're demi-gods.

Barring hygiene issues, give the guy a chance, assuming you're looking for more than a shallow hookup. Looks don't guarantee chemistry. You could meet and find you hit it off so well mentally and/or physically that you stop noticing his teeth and gums.
