    Advice on Computer Build

Hey, just hoping some of the more tech savvy people here can point out if I've made any poor choices with this build:

    pcpartpicker.com/p/3r5MN

    Intel Core i5-3470
    ASRock Z77 Extreme4
    G.Skill Ripjaws 2x4
    WD Caviar Blue 500GB
    Asus GeForce GTX 760
    Cooler Master HAF 922
    Corsair CSM 550W

I'm looking to spend roughly a grand before peripherals, but that's a pretty soft number. I'd like to be able to run WoW and Diablo 3 at max settings without experiencing FPS issues. Any tips?

If it were me, I'd save $70 and drop down to the 760, if its just WoW and D3, anything more is not needed. If you think you'll play other games that are more GPU intensive, then a 770 would be good, and certainly within budget.

How important is the SSD? And how significant is the CPU upgrade?

First, I think there might be some confusion.

You stated "A grand before peripherals" and listed parts... But in the actual system build link, it included the OS as well. That sort of.. skews things. Is the OS included in that $1000 figure or not?

Second... As far as the CPU, the 3470 shouldn't be an option at all. Theres no point in getting it. You should either look to the i3-4330 (which performs better than the i5-3470), or the i5-4670K and overclock it. I really can't recommend any other CPU option.

An SSD isn't necessary, but if it is within your budget, I'd say theres no reason not to. It just makes everything better.

The build link is what I actually intend on purchasing, I'm not really considering the OS and monitor as part of the budget. The $1k figure is a pretty soft ballpark anyway, it's just a figure to make sure I don't get too carried away on a system that's not really going to be playing particularly demanding games.

I'm assuming after a bit of poking around that the 4670 is better for multitasking (WoW/Chrome/vent/whatever else running simultaneously) even if I'm not overclocking, which I'm not really ready to mess with. That leaves me with an adjusted build that is hopefully a better system for the same cost:

    Intel Core i5-4670
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Cooler
    Gigabye GA Z87 HD3
    G.Skill Ares 2x4
    Crucial M500 120GB SSD
    WD Caviar Blue 1TB HD
    Asus GeForce GTX 760
NZXT Source 210 Elite ATX Mid
    XFX 550W
    Asus VE278H 27"

Any thoughts on the monitor? I picked a non-IPS one for those times when I feel like playing FPS games. Also I'm not certain if I should be buying case fans/thermal compound separately. >.<

Make sure you get the i5 4670K. The 4670 non K is a locked processor, and though you may not want to fox with overclocking at the moment, it would be a shame to spend $1000 on a computer and not have that option in the future. It is essentially free performance. However if you never want to overclock, you can save money by dropping the CPU cooler and dropping to an h81/h87 chipset motherboard. The z87 chipset is for overclockers. Just my 2c. (But get the unlocked 4670k and reap the rewards!)
