In modern day Slavic countries, people either love Russian because they are nostalgic about communist times, or take Russian as one of the millions of other languages out there without any prejudice. This might not apply for Belarus and today's Ukraine (for obvious reasons, but last year, in Zakarpatska oblast at least, people were friendly towards Russian), I am not sure, but applies for all the West-oriented countries.
Otherwise the post is right, you really want to learn a Germanic language for no apparent reason, but you already know the two important ones. I would recommend either
a) actually having a reason to learn a Scandinavian language (will to move and work or something)
b) learning a universally useful language (Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, ...)
Don't get me wrong, I love learning languages too, and if you really like Germanic ones, that's your preference. But in your place, I would start by learning a language of a different family, it will really enhance your possibilities and world perception.
