I guess in a perfect world, where judges were robots that judged only on the evidence given at hand, he would probably be okay (if there wasn't sufficient evidence against him).
But I can understand why he'd get that removed, it kinda sends the wrong message. Or wear a turtleneck

Means different things depending on which group he is going by it varies a lot. Usually has something to do with being sent to prison. That and you have the whole filled or empty thing as well. Usually they indicate they know someone who was killed or they got sent to prison for murder. Nobody would put an obsessive Tolkien fan in prison, as they'd never survive, so he'll get let off with community service or some trivial crap like that.
