    FCC Policy Change

In Policy Shift, F.C.C. Will Allow a Web Fast Lane

    From the article,
The principle that all Internet content should be treated equally as it flows through cables and pipes to consumers looks all but dead.

Companies like Disney, Google or Netflix will be allowed to pay Internet service providers like Comcast and Verizon for special, faster lanes to send video and other content to their customers under new rules to be proposed by the Federal Communications Commission, the agency said on Wednesday.

The proposed rules are a change for the agency on what is known as net neutrality — the idea that no providers of legal Internet content should be discriminated against in providing their offerings to consumers and that users should have equal access to see any legal content they choose.
Yet another predictable sellout of public interests to giant corporations by the Obama Administration. Anyone want to bet that FCC Chairthing Tom Wheeler will have a lucrative sinecure with some telco within two months of his quitting his job? (Anyone else recall when Obama promised not to appoint former industry lobbyists like Wheeler?)
"In today’s America, conservatives who actually want to conserve are as rare as liberals who actually want to liberate. The once-significant language of an earlier era has had the meaning sucked right out of it, the better to serve as camouflage for a kleptocratic feeding frenzy in which both establishment parties participate with equal abandon" (Taking a break from the criminal, incompetent liars at the NSA, to bring you the above political observation, from The Archdruid Report.)

Its possible (the cushy job after he leaves his post), however from what I recall the FCC policies requiring net neutrality were shot down, and would require congress to actually do something on it.

    And good fucking luck there.

When they say "allowed" they really mean "required".

If you really believe Obama is the source of our political corruption and pandering to lobbyist, you're delusional. Our government as a whole needs to be leeched of bad blood.

The FCC could reclassify ISPs as common carriers, like every other fracking country on the planet, and it would be a null issue. Instead they're just going to authorize buccaneering by telcos. But that would still require the US government to act against established corporate interests for the benefit of the voting public, so indeed, as you say, good fucking luck.

Whelp, they finally did it. Mission accomplished after over 20 years. Good thing the current FCC chairman isn't a former cable and wireless fucking lobbyist, amirite?

And this is how it ends... in a completely predictable, horrible, and unfortunately expected way. Well, it's over.

Whatever the US does, other countries will do too one way or another. That's not patriotism talking, quite the opposite. Just look at copyright cases and the worldwide laws involved there. This only makes it that much more obvious that money is the only true power in the real world.

Don't worry guys, the invisible hand of the market will ensure that consumers get a fair deal.

Hopefully they start throttling conservative websites so we can have an extremely vocal backlash

I think congress is too busy catering to lobby groups that insist the internet is filling society with porn and video games that are making us violent and morally dissolute, and is no doubt a tool of the Devil.

This is why we should move away from giving america any power.

EU and Brazil cement net neutrality in their law and the US does bullshit like this

    Congrats America.

You don't even have to throttle anything. Just tell O'reilly and Limbaugh that its being throttled. We would have a net neutrality law in under a week through congress.

This is actually... a really good idea

I better practice my southern US accent before I make the call. We should also probably frame the throttling as a conspiracy by Google and the Rich Internet Liberals to silence conservative websites and cause Fox News.com to throttle and buffer excessively whenever someone tries to view it.

Nah. The Tea Party has a choke chain in the hands of big business. They'll rant about so-con crap endlessly, but that crew of corporate shills call ending Net Neutrality "internet freedom", which is nicely Orwellian.
