How many active PvPers are there really?

How many players are actually pushing ratings on the 3v3 ladder? How many are there when you combine all regions? Looking at EU the last ranked player (1000th) has 2435 rating. But how many more active players do we really have? :O

Blizzard defines active PvPers as over 1000 rating for rated PvP.

There are 363,451 people in the US who have a rating of 1000 or higher in 2s (410,956 in the EU). Taiwan and Korea are both much lower with several thousand 7,338 in Taiwan and 16,491 in Korea. China has 188,891. Adding those up gives 987,127 people.

Now, that's just for 2s. The vast majority of people with a rating of 1000 or higher in another bracket probably have 1000 or higher in 2s as well, although I could certainly see a chunk of RBGers with no arena rating, but it's probably safe to say somewhere around 1,000,000 people worldwide actively participate in rated PvP on WoW.

That number jumps up to closer to 1.75 million if you count anyone who has done arenas or RBGs this season.

That also does not count Random Battlegrounds.

Those give us some insight into how many people do things like Random Battlegrounds. Every day there are an average of about 670K PvP instances (which includes random BGs, arenas, and RBGs), compared to 900K PvE instances (which includes dungeons, raids, and scenarios). So it's probably fair to say as a rough ballpark that something like 33% to 40% of all WoW players PvP.
