Veterans die on "secret" VA waiting list.

    http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/23/health...h-care-delays/

    Short:

Managers at the Pheonix, AZ, VA are accused of keeping two waiting lists. One was shared with Washington DC and was used for forming statistics and assessing bonus's. The second list was kept secret.

Every time a veteran entered the Pheonix VA they were placed on the "secret" waiting list. This was done by entering the vets info, doing a screen capture, then deleting the info so that DC doesn't see it. As the "known" waiting list shrinks the VA would move people off of the secret list and on to the shared list.

The VA is now facing charges that several vets died while they languished on the "secret" list.

Again...the apparent reason for this was so that workers at that VA could receive better bonus's.

Clearly government should be in charge of all health care because they have our best interests in mind, as demonstrated here.

The people running this should be denied healthcare services for the rest of their lives

Or they could fire those responsible and hire some people that will actually do their job.

    Yes let's do that...
Let's not talk about a pocket office of the entire agency being corrupt, cause that would be more boring

Fine, let's stay on topic... /yawn

For real though; this is really disturbing and frightening. How it is possible to keep these things a secret baffles me.

Could anyone explain the benefits of keeping Vets out of the healthcare system like that? I'm assuming they're paying a lot less for their services, but is there anything else?

Oh he just confuses two different entities.
He doesn't realize how the government agency is only responsible for handling and paying for the care.. Apparently he forgets that the system within is profit driven business. Which leads often to the situation, and like in this case too, that greed is the cause for milking the government out of money.

If the private/business concept would be entirely removed, there wouldn't be a point for greed to even appear.
Greed wouldn't make sense when everything was regulated via fees set by standards and regulations.

That's probably too difficult to understand for some though..

I'm going to guess that by having less people on the known waiting list, the managers looked like they were doing more work and had less backlog, therefore leading to higher bonuses?

Shameful, letting people die because you want a bonus is about a low as you can get.

It means that the administrators and staff look like they are doing a much better job than they are actually doing, and are clearing a backlog of applications faster than before, so they get a bigger performance bonus at the end of the year.

Correct. Bonuses are handed out based on "performance." The better you do your job, the bigger the bonus. By hiding large portions of the waiting list it appears as though the Pheonix, AZ, VA is doing a good job and earning higher bonuses.

So the managers at that particular VA hid large parts of the waiting list, and let people die, so they could receive more money for something they didn't do.

    EDIT:

I think all intelligent people can agree that this has less to do with "government run health care" and more to do with simple greed among a limited (so far) group of people.

Oh man a profit motive made someone do bad things? Clearly government is bad.
