I thought DS2 would be playable with M/KB - I was wrong. Surprise.

So I bought DS2 yesterday with a ton of other people for PC, because I despise playing games on consoles. I was so excited, the developers made promises that DS2 gameplay would be much better on PC this time around than DS1 was. They were sort of right - Atleast I don't have to use a 3rd party program to have mediocre game playability.

But its still shitty as hell. Keyboard controls are terrible - and none of the tutorials were made with dual purpose keyboard in mind. They all still have controller buttons - which is just dumb and not well designed.

So now in order to enjoy the game I spent so much money on, I have to spend more money buying an XBOX controller to get decent playabiltiy out of it.

Anyone know the best place to get a controller fast? Walmart still sells them, but they're still over $30 each for a wired controller, which is crazy.

Def a lot of useful in fo there, but I don't think AHK will solve the problem with things like: Camera Sensitivity, which even if you lower or raise it in the options it always reverts b ack to default. Its way to fast atm for me.

Did you press escape while leaving the menu? If you did, your settings weren't saved. The only way to save them is to click on the options menu after you're done.

DS2 was never meant to be a PC port.

Lesson learned: Don't play japanese console ports on PC.

Yes it was actually, as stated by the company themselves. Dark souls ONE was never meant to be a PC port. Get your facts straight please.

Which explains why the controls still suck out of the box, right? Because it was meant to be a PC port.

Hahaha and you beleived them... this is funny, you shouldn't beleive developers EVER, if you knew DS1 was a bad port don't expect DS2 to be good, the graphics were extremely downgraded for pc, it wasn't developed for pc first.
Cod has a new campaign, new weapons, new multiplayer levels every year. Zelda has been recycling the same weapons, villains, and dungeons since the 80's. Zelda recycles enough to make cod blush. The same weapons, villains, dungeons, and princess in every single Zelda for the most part. It's almost as cheesy as bowser vs Mario round 35

Auto hotkey completely solves any issues if you don't mind going a third party route and know how to set it up. It's a slight bummer that it wasn't better out of the box but with so many available workarounds, and even if you're lazy just using a wired 360 controller (which works flawlessly and arguably better than mk+b for this game anyway), I can't really complain.

The game itself is far too good for an issue like this with multiple workarounds to detract from my experience.

Pretty much this sums it up.

just buy a f.. pad, how hard can it be. The amount of whine about this one issue is mind boggling.
You spend tons of money on your ultra hyper gaming keyboards, mice and shit and can't come up with 15quid for a gaming pad? One less visit to mac shit or some other shizzle and you're set, kid.

Play it on console like it's meant to be played, damn.

Why you computer kids continue to bitch about games that aren't even meant to be played on your inferior platform is beyond me.

Please post productively and respectfully. Infracted. -Edge

Yes, how silly of us to expect a game that is ported to our chosen platform to actually work properly with the default input peripherals on said platform.

PC inferior in the way it plays Dark Souls 2 at 60 fps, when console versions are stuck at 30 fps.. ok yeah, consoles way ahead.

To be fair, I'd rather play a game running 30 fps with excellent controls rather than 60 fps with subpar controls.
The difference between 30 fps and 60 fps is exaggerated in my opinion, 60 fps just looks prettier, 30 fps is still easily playable.

But I do agree that it's silly that it doesn't work well with mouse and keyboard if true.

Well yeah controls on PC should be good, but the guy was more that you should never play it on a PC, while infact it is now the superior version outside of the bad controls (which again then can be fixed with a pad).

The devs should have contracted someone experienced like Nixxes to do their PC port. For example the Thief PC port was nothing short of amazing and with so many options.
When we looked at the relics of the precursors, we saw the height civilization can attain.
When we looked at their ruins, we marked the danger of that height.

    True, he did shoot first.
Also don't forget modding as an advantage.

And to OP, could always try a PS3 controller, they're a bit iffy sometimes, but they work too. In case you can get one cheaper.

After the *insanely* shitty port of DS1 for PC (seriously, its a contender for worst PC port of all time), I took a wait-and-see stance for the PC version of DS2 - and I'm glad I did. Everyone I know who bought it is having nothing but issues and problems. And I'm talking people with amazing, new, badass computers.

So yeah I'll pass. I understood that DS1 was their first PC game/port and that they rushed it. But they promised from the outset that DS2 wouldn't be a repeat of that - everything I've read and heard, from user reviews to forum topics like this one to the experiences of fellow PC gamers I know personally, suggests they dropped the ball again.
Appreciate your time with friends and family while they're here. Don't wait until they're gone to tell them what they mean to you.

The problem with PCs, and developing for them, is that they're never the same. The nice thing about consoles is they'll all be identical to each other. This isn't a problem for a developer experienced with developing PCs, but it's why console developers will run into a lot of snags with PC development.

I had no issues hopping right in and playing. My issue is that the game itself is crap
