Get out of your Dark Ages mentality.

For grown adults, it's fine, colours arn't really gendered in the same way for adults. For children however, to suggest that society doesn't assign blue to boys and pink to girls is simply dishonest.

Like I say, if it was just about making two eggs with two different categories of toys and there wasn't a gendered reason behind it, they could have used ANY other two combinations of colours. They didn't.
But there is a gendered reason. Most girls like dolls, most boys like cars. That doesn't mean everyone is like that, but should those eggs be "something out of the norm" just for the smaller minority? No.

That's only because they are basically manipulated into doing so by society at an early age, if gender equality was equal people wouldn't fly off their rocker every time a boy picks up a doll or a girl plays with a car >.< I saw my grandmother do it to my cousin last night, he wanted to play with the girls(similar age) but she picked him up and put him with the boys even though the boys were like 5 or 6 years older than him >.<

It alienates girls who like cars and boys who like fashion, and teaches them that if you are a boy who likes fashion or dolls or whatever, then that makes you a girl. It's not really okay.

And yes, I'm aware that there is nothing inherently male or female about blue and pink. Yes I am aware that centuries ago we dressed boys in pink because it was considered a masculine colour. That doesn't change the fact that in our current society, the symbolism is pink = female, blue = male. Whether or not that's okay is a different debate entirely.

In the end if they didn't want to make the toys gendered they could have used any other colours in existance. Green and yellow. Hell, even if they went with blue and green or something, the fact that it isn't blue/pink means it's not really gendering the toys. But they didn't. They used blue and pink. Specifically.

I don't ever remember being told what I was allowed to like....... I think you are just reading to much into it.

It's fine if you want to make a "cars" egg and a "dolls" egg, but why could the cars egg not have been green and the dolls egg have been yellow? That way you arn't reinforcing the stereotype that cars are for boys only and dolls are for girls only. That way for all the many boys who like cars, you can just buy the green cars egg, and if your son likes dolls instead, you can buy the yellow dolls egg, and the colours arn't screaming at the kid "You are a girl for wanting this toy"

The problem isn't so much the blue = boy pink = girl, it's that you are assigning a certain type of toy to boys and a certain type of toy to girls. It alienates people who don't fall into those categories. Yes, it's a minority, but just because it's a minority doesn't mean it's okay to alienate them when there is NO need to whatsoever. They could have used green and yellow and nobody would have felt alienated, and they'd still have two categories of toys.

The biggest surprise I found in a Kinder Egg was Erin turning yet another thread into a fucking ridiculous sexism debate. Holy. Fucking. Shit. Are you mentally fucking retarded? This thread is about motherfucking chocolate eggs with a toy inside. I swear 1/2 the threads I read on these goddamn forums have your name in them, and no matter WHAT the topic is you seem to manage to steer the entire conversation away from the point of the thread, and into a fucking "DOWN WITH THE PATRIARCHY I'M A TRANSGENDER I DESERVE TO BE SAT ON A THRONE AND WORSHIPPED" debate.

Infraction is going to be so fucking worth it.

I loved the stuff that I had to put together myself, like small cars or those small islands with trees and huts you could click on to the island.
    What is worth fighting for?

It's not the color or even the toy or the silly egg thing. It's the stupid people that fill our world that will spew hate if you like something they think you shouldn't. They are the problem, not the eggs. It's the parents job to try and show their kids that the only person with the problem, is the person being hateful.

I was never told what to like. I played with dolls, I played with cars. I quickly decided that I liked cars a lot more. If you're seriously complaining and saying that gender stereotypes are actually hurting anyone, you are just looking for something to complain about. So what if some parents want their kids to like certain things? It's their kid. Do as you wish with yours, stay out of everyone else's business. Kids can play with whatever they want, I don't care. Nobody cares.

When you only have one topic of knowledge, limited and narrow as it may be, you have to skew everything else to fit it.

This is about a damn egg and a toy. Enjoy life and stop looking for things to be sour at all the time.

Are you serious? Okay lets use green and yellow for the next 100 years and then green is the boy colour and yellow is the girl colour. Or should we swap the colours each week just for shits and giggles?

Gender stereotypes do more good than harm. Without some kind of basic models it is much harder for children to build a reasonable self image.

Perhaps you need to grow out of your gender obssessed view on life and accept that colours are just colours.

Even when I went to school in the 70s and 80s, boys played with dolls and girls played with cars, the former being far more common than the latter.

Pink and Blue are just accepted as universal fucking symbols for male and female. Pink is a slightly more feminine colour, and blue is a slightly more masculine colour. QQing about pink for females and blue for males makes about as much sense as QQing that the Venus symbol (♀) is for women and the Mars symbol (♂) is for men. There are bigger issues in the world. Holy shit.

Rather than whine why not try engaging Erin if you believe her to be incorrect?

While it is off topic in what was supposed to be the equivalent of a Forum Fun thread it is a good point. I would counter-argue that it means that those who want a specific kind of toy are more likely to get said toy now that they have been split into two eggs, however said eggs are marketed to stereotypical 'boys' and 'girls' markets as are all toys.

I'm colorblind. I'll never be able to identify myself with my gender .

OT: I liked the toys with gears and mechanisms that you had to build yourself.
