Would you be open to a darker themed WoW?

Things I would like to see added as content:

    1. Gambling / Casino for a gold sink. Dice and card games.

    2. More gore. We have a setting for language, add one for gore and step it up a bit. The odd beheading or gout of blood never hurt any one.

    3. Remove alliance / horde barriers. We should all be able to raid together. Want to be evil or good? Give us reasons and content to play either way. This also would alleviate servers ratios as this is becoming a huge issue.

    4. Ever read "Ready Player 1" ? Add this concept in but at a way smaller level. A reason for groups to bind together against other groups to get something really epic.

    5. Game conflict in-game is not a bad thing, generate more of that but NOT in a personal way, just in a game mechanic way.

How is removing the alliance/horde barrier making WoW darker? Makes no sense.
    Gambling Casino? No
    Gore? Sure, I'd dig that

    1 - Don't care as it doesn't affect me.

    2 - Sure.

    3 - No.

4 - Care to explain more? I normally type %t while targetting the players to get their attention, if that's what you're on about?

5 - Again, could you expand? Also not sure how you'd accomplish this if you plan to remove the faction barrier unless you'd already planned for splinter factions ect.

The gambling thing I've wanted since early Cataclysm, I suggested to Blizzard, to add in Goblin/Gnomish slot machines as a gold sink (may not fit everyone's interest but I've always loved slot machines :P)

So many legal ramifications there. There's a reason that Pokemon no longer has them. You could only MAYBE get away with in-game gambling in the US. The EU has pretty strict bans on it.

    1. Eh, gray area... Would be kinda cool but I'm not sure if simulated gambling is legal in all markets, esp in a game that has minors playing.
    2. "The odd beheading or gout of blood never hurt any one." They don't?? I haven't seen anyone in real life existing without a head.. >.> Game isn't real life? Sure it's not... but the way people want gaming to lean more and more toward increased realism... er, no.. WoW is ok without being that gory, there are enough other games that fill that "void" I'm sure.
    3. Without saying too much on what isn't supposed to be discussed... some privates do this. I play one, a small one. Works out pretty well on a small one where less player help is available. On a much more populated place like retail though, nah, don't do that do it, you just lose half the concept of the game then. However I could agree with, as suggested in another thread, an option to flag yourself in a way that allows you to interact with the other faction in a friendly manner and raid, etc. together which could be fun.
    4. Not a clue.. next question.
    5. Hard to put humans at the controls of beings within a game and not have it end up personal.

yes because letting Horde and Alliance raid together would make WoW so dark themed.

I don't get how gambling is darker than a ten year orgy of slaughter that claimed more victims than most childhood diseases.

Darn, I was sure you were going to recommend that every box come with black eye-liner and plastic vampire teeth, maybe a little notepad and pen for us to write our poems of despair.

Your post makes no sense.. gambling is not dark, neither is horde and alliance no longer being at war..

How is any of this dark? Good god, what would some of these posters have done with the 90s Dark Age of comic books?
Be seeing you guys on Bloodsail Buccaneers NA!

I just don't like that the world is so black & white about if you're this race then you're on this faction. I see plenty of exceptions to that rule in any continent. Just kills some of the depth, like there's no room for betrayal which is a real thing that can happen in any good story.

The story is already dark. We just finished up an expansion where an entire generation of sentient bugs cross over a wall to die to see who is the strongest. We fought against a resurrected corpse whose history involves genocide, rounding up slaves whose bones were cemented into a wall. Then we had an assassination attempt on a leader which result almost in his death. Followed by the Warchief mass executing people, blowing up a city, impaling someone IN THE CINEMATIC and then blowing up the most treasured beautiful location in the game.

Then we fight through the Warchief's city in an attempt to stop the coming holocaust. How is that not dark?

The people on the other side of that wall were chubby panda people who grow magic giant vegetables and drink lots of beer. The first dungeon in the expansion was saving a brewery from talking monkeys, talking rabbits and talking puddles of beer. Vol'Jin got better. The executions happened off camera, the destruction of the city happened almost entirely off camera, the impaled guy got better a couple of hours later and the blowing up of the beautiful location didn't even delay the delivery of the mail.

Oh, and the genocidal warchief gets away with a stern lecture and a few weeks in prison. He doesn't even do hard time because a magical time traveling dragon helps him get away. While we're all having a massive party on a magic island where time stands still, he slips out to rally MOAR ORKS and gets up to his old tricks again! That pesky varmint!

I've seen darker episodes of Scooby Doo.

    1. No
    2. Definitely. That's why I love Dragon Age so much.
    3. How would this affect the tone?
    4. I don't get it.
    5. Care to explain?

My sentiments exactly, well said. WoW is just getting silly. And yes, it always had a cheeky flavor to it, but it's just a little too over the top now. At least for my tastes.

None of these suggestions would make the game "darker", it'd just make them look more like Bomberman Act:zero.
