Not getting the performance i (think) i should get.

    Hi,

I currently run a i7 3820 at stock clock, tried oc it but didn't see any big difference.
Combine with that i have 1 Asus Radeon 7970 and 1 Asus Radeon R9-280X in Crossfire.
    12gbs of 1866mhz ram and a Gigabyte UD3 Board.

And while gaming wow, i drop down to like 30-35 fps at 1080p with everything on full, even when i turn of the Shadow thingy i dont run the game smoothly..

    Is it my CPU?

When are you checking your FPS? If you're at 30-35 when raiding 25 man, then this is what should be expected. If you're at 30-35 when sitting by yourself in Nagrand, then there's something wrong.

For starters, multiple GPUs don't scale well in WoW, yet I'd expect a single 280X run WoW maxed just fine at 1080p. 30-35fps is expected in 25m raid or world bosses.

I usually get the drop downs when raiding 10/25 man, and often when in Orgrimar and Shrine.
I can't wrap my head around the fact that my computer isn't good enough for this game.. I run Bf4 with ease..

BF4 is more GPU based. A good GPU makes a difference. A good GPU doesn't help much with WoW (particularly raiding)

It's more CPU based. My $300 setup of a 3570K + Z77 board likely outperforms your probably $600 setup of 3820 + X79 board. Since it's both 2 generations old, and caps out at 3.8ghz. It's not a bad CPU, but from a price/performance ratio, it's awful.

30-35 FPS is what you should expect in Shrine/Org(near Auction Houses) and 25m raids(not LFR). 10m raids should be smooth +50 FPS easily.

Trust me, I get same FPS as that with a worse setup and BF4 runs at 80+ with mix/match med/Ultra settings.

Buying a new CPU then! Thanks!

Erm... that's.. .not exactly what I meant. A new CPU wont help unless you want to shell out another $300-$400. There would be an increase, but not HUGE. Maybe 10fps increase on the minimum frames.

I wouldn't recommend doing anything, honestly. 30-35 is about what you're gonna get, and upgrading will get you like... 40-50 in heavy raid stuff.

For real? Doesn't that mean that the game is badly made? if the performance scaling si that poor? 30fps isn't "good" enough for me! i want more!

I wouldn't call it 'badly made'. It's a problem with all MMO's, really. You just notice it more with WoW simply because more people play it, so more people are experiencing the same issue.

There are literally no computers that can get a solid, stable 60fps in 25m raids on ultra. It can -get- to that, but not stable, all the time.

    1. Disable Addons (esp. Nameplate addons like in ElvUI)
    2. Overclock (aim for 4.5 Ghz)

To the OP... just as an example, I'm running an i7 3770K @ 4.7Ghz (sig is outdated, cooler is an H100i), along with dual GTX770s in SLI. In a 25 man raid, on the pull I get about 35fps. As the fight progresses, I can expect to top out around 50fps on average. Do I occasionally get to 60+? Sure, but it's not stable at 60. I would say that 30-35 is perfectly fine. If you really need to hit 50+ consistently, you're going to need an i5 + Z87 mobo + solid CPU cooler. You can expect cost to be roughly $430 +/- $20 or so.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 65.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($71.50 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus Z87-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($134.99 @ NCIX US)

If you're willing to spend this for MAX 15 more frames, then go for it. I wouldn't recommend it, but it's always an option.

I am curious that the op said over clocked his cpu and barely saw a difference. What kind of occ we are talking here? +200Mhz?

You'll have to settle with that, there simply doesn't exist a CPU that could get stable 60fps, probably not even 50fps. Best you can do in "feasible" setup (eg no LN2 cooling) is getting dream individual 4-core Haswell chip, de-lid and OC it to ~5Ghz with some badass custom water loop.

Wow's outdated engine is why you get trash performance in a 25man setting while in modern mmos you can have a hundred people in your screen and be fine.

Kind of like how divine divinity takes 8 seconds to load on a machine hundreds of times stronger than anything in 2001.

I have 2 computers here that can manage 50FPS stable but not everyone has 2 780sc acx, or 3 HD7970 rofl.

Never say impossible it's a word made to be challenged!...

What does it matter if you got a 770 or 2x780's for raiding and wow? It prob caps out with a 760 not even a 770. 50fps stable, never dropping in 25hc raiding? What cpu you got and is it occed @ mhz?

    - - - Updated - - -

talking about on Ultra not 50fps at "good" settings.

I'd like to see some video of that. Must be monstrous CPU clocks to pull that off. Having multiple high-end GPUs has absolutely no effect in WoW, if anything, it'll probably run worse than one strong GPU.

E: Btw, LFR doesn't count as 25M raiding.

I got an 4670k at 4.4 and gtx 770 with all on ultra except shadows. On immerseus (25hc) when the adds come with enemy plates on, and go woah bladestoormm, fps goes down the drain, worse than malkorok. Sure if i get enemy plates off its better but certainly not 50fps.

    Guys here are my specs!

    Intel system 1
    4770k @ 4.5Ghz
    2 Evga SC 780

    Intel system 2
    4670k @ 4.5Ghz
    3 HD7970 ASUS

    Amd system 1
    FX 8350 @ 4.7Ghz
No Graphics cards they are in the intel system!

World of Warcraft not utilising 2-4 graphics cards is wrong it optimises perfectly fine maybe not massive gains but quite significantly 30-40% gains per card! Stop substituting opinion for facts!
