Its funny because if you don't use the word "privilege" rational people usually don't have a problem. I mean would anyone really have a problem with someone claiming something like "growing up rich leaves you with a certain set of experiences and expectations and a world view that poor kids don't have"?

I've indicated in several dialogues that some claims in this area don't carry a lot of validity. In the ones that they do, I'd be okay if one said they were more inclined to develop said things. But people have different interpretations of the environment around them and develop differently.

White privilege has more serious realms then video games that I think should be discussed. Why is black seen as harmful or incompetent to some people is a good example. I was just working with the context of the article though.

From my understanding, "check your privilege" essentially means "be aware of the societal circumstances and categorizations which benefit you". That's not a bad thing. It's basically saying "take a step back and broaden your perspective".

I can see how it'd be lame to use in an argument or as an insult, but the core idea of being aware of your position in the world and the affect that it has on your perspective is actually good. In an educational setting like this, this is fine. It's Harvard orientation, not a Tumblr argument.
