One cigarette won't give you lung cancer, yet a pack a week is a good road to high medical bills.
    That goes without saying really.

But no I very much doubt it has any negative effect on normal mentally stable healthy people.

There are plenty more papers for specifics, ranging from expectations of sex to notions of ideal partners.

No idea why you mentioned pro-choice, the paper investigates if porn affects men's views on women.

So either supply a paper, peer review, or just state it's only your opinion. What studies discuss raising of expectations and standards?

for certain people yeah... its been known to cause addictions, and ruin relationships...but as a societal whole I think its ok, in that it doesn't help or really hurt.

All pornography is is a visual medium for people to play out their fantasy. Does it objectify men and women? Yes.

That does not make it bad. HOWEVER, when children (read this as under 25 years of age) see it, they tend to associate it with "how things are/should be. So in that context it is harmful to society. After Mental and Physical maturity have both been reached? I feel that any mature adult, man or woman, is totally free to watch porn with no ill-effect. It is just a fantasy afterall.

No, negative effects. How long are people going to stay on Ehrlich's fable?

    Err yes, negative.
How is a bigger ever increasing world population NOT a negative?

In an attempt to see if there was a relationship between porn consumption and attitudes towards women, the studiers sent a survey consisting of a question of whatever or not abortions should be readily available for women.

This article shares my opinion, and uses some generalization and other tacticts that I know the MMO-champ forum posters just love.

Talks about that Elliot kid and how his manifesto doesn't seem to ever talk about loving any woman, just wanting to score with them.

Anyways, wanted to see what you amazing folks have to say about the matter.
I knew that article was going to be complete rubbish but wow. Blaming pornography for that twit who killed people because he was clearly an unhinged psychopath, that's even low for you interwebs.

i like how it's turned from "negative impact on society"
to a general idea of how it may change a males attitude towards women...
how about does it change how women view men? (larger size and longer lasting with perfect rhythm?)

for some people it's bad, and some forms of it are by their very nature bad(and usually illegal because of it)
but saying pornography by itself is an insanely large topic

it's like saying "is water bad for humanity?"
arguments for the anti-water crowd could be, 100% of people who drink water die(in some cases it's the CAUSE of the death, water is indeed toxic for us in large quantities)
or, water kills so many people by drowning them, or conducting electricity etc etc....

it's just to broad of a topic, just as generalizing water into being good or bad is.

there are plenty of ways water is bad for humanity, should we ban water?
there are plenty of ways porno is bad for society, should we ban porno?

aside from all the good that comes from both (granted porno's aren't a necessity to life, just a quick example i thought of)
Still I cry, tears like pouring rain, Innocent is my lurid pain.

Pornography has a negative impact on individuals, not society.

I like the classic "definition" of pornography: I cannot say what pornography is, but I know it when I see it. Statues that had stood in the Vatican for centuries were suddenly construed as pornographic by a certain Pope who then took a hammer and fig leaf to their poor stoney cocks. No one had an issue before that, but suddenly they're detrimental to society.

To say that something is detrimental to society tends to mean that the individual finds it detrimental to themselves. I believe the psychological term is "externalization".

You do know how it works?

Just because the survey contains a question pertaining to abortions has nothing to do with the aim of the study. It's an issue to do with views on women.

Porn is evil, it makes me think naughty thoughts. I'm off to watch the new superman, looking at the adds, there should be insructions on how to fly... Which is something I always wanted to do...

Also, has anyone heard how I can reach the Weapon X program? I can use some claws...

    Not this bullshit again....
They're (short for They are) describes a group of people. "They're/They are a nice bunch of guys." Their indicates that something belongs/is related to a group of people. "Their car was all out of fuel." There refers to a location. "Let's set up camp over there." There is also no such thing as "could/should OF". The correct way is: Could/should'VE, or could/should HAVE.

Whatever you do, don't ask the Military. They'll just look at you funny and put a note in your medical file.

Surely if it raises standards, or at least raises peoples aspirations with regards to sexual performance, that must be a good thing. It makes people try to be better lovers, and I fail to see how that can be bad. Your post makes it sound as if you are calling for sex to be nerfed, which I find to be a very odd viewpoint.

The idea of treating women like objects for the simple practice of achieving sexual satisfaction was around long before pornography.

It's turning us into a race of hyper-sexual adepts and supermen, which is going to be extremely awkward when we finally meet aliens.
