Ted Cruz Gives up Canadian Citizenship

Well, it's official, we're stuck with him.
    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireS...nship-24080425

What I like is this quote..
Amid questions last August about his eligibility to be president should he decide to run, Cruz released his birth certificate to the Dallas Morning News — and said then that he was surprised to learn he was a dual Canadian-U.S. citizen.
So he didn't find out till his early 40s that he had dual citizenship... o.0
And this guy wants to have a say in other immigrants lives / immigration status? lol

What's the point of giving up a citizenship if you are a dual citizen?

If he was born in Canada he can't be president.... doesn't matter that he gave up citizenship to said country.

"The U.S. Constitution says only a "natural born Citizen" may be president. Legal scholars, however, generally agree the description covers foreign-born children of U.S. parents.

Previous foreign-born Americans — notably Republicans John McCain and George Romney — have run for president with some mention, but no serious challenges, of their eligibility."

As a none American I'm confused about why a man born in Canada to a Canadian mother and Cuban father cares especially greatly about Americas immigration. Also, being born outside the US, does that not invalidate him for presidency? How did he get US citizenship?

edit: nvm, she was american, derp

He's been attacked by the left for not being "Latino enough".

Dumb people there too or justified because it came from the left, what do you think?

There are ways to be a natural born citizen if you're born abroad, for example if you're born on a military base. I don't know the exact method they had to do, probably just had to petition at the time of his birth for his citizen ship or something.

Just more pageantry from this guy.

What does this have to do with anything? I don't really believe your claim that he was just "attacked by the left" for that, but personally its irrelevant to this conversation. You're deflecting.

I think you're trying to distract from his lame and incredibly obvious politicking

Extreme right wing candidate does stupid publicity stunt to show his even more extremely righter wingedness.

I'd take bets on him Anglo-ing his last name, but that will appeal to the latino population. Going "Ted" was close enough.

Yeah, but you still need to contact I believe the State Dept. to record the birth, that's all I meant.

Considering American's opinion of Canada is, on average, overwhelmingly positive, you'd think it would be a better political move to keep the dual citizenship as a symbol of the possibility for improving relations.

Not really. Ted Cruz could save a town of small children and bunnies and would still never win the presidency with how he has pretty much been nothing but the king of the obstructionists.
