    Exclamation Social Degeneration

Recently, I made a small research with a friend about which way the general class of society is turning to. What means general class? The greater society, or the group of societies that represents the majority of planet. You, me, the other guy that is on the internet, or the guy that is on his job right now, is part of this wider society.

The thing is, that we, the people who compose this class, have been adopting ideas and habits that will prove bad for the long-term course the society. What might be those things? We may not see them, because we adapt to it slowly and we don't recognize the side effects. Anti-social behaviors and habits, replacement of Humans with other things(not what you think), equalizing the human value to other lesser valuable things, are some of the factors that are changing our lives slowly and degenerating the Society. What is worse? These behavours are adapted by us because we "like them" or "want them". It feels good with this, so we care no longer for anything else.

But let me give some examples of what I mean.

    • How many times did you hear the phrase "Personal Space", and violation of it?
    • How many times did you sit on a bus chair, and hoped for the guy that just boarded the bus, not to come and sit next to you?
    • How many times you saw a known person on street and looked away just to avoid him/her?
    • It is truth, nowdays people prefer the company of pets rather than the Human one. Many people we asked, said that they perfer to have a dog and go out every day for a stroll, rather than try and have a relationship with another Human. What is worse? When they felt that this was not enought, the just bought another pet. Most of them, they refer to their pet as their "child".
    • Recently, in my region, a drunk man was causing trouble to a neighbourhood. The people called the police to pacify him. This man had a dog, and when the policemen tried to capture the owner, it bit badly three policemen sending them to the hospital. When the news were all over the internet and the facebook, the people in their comments supported the dog and worried if the dog got hurt. The more "hardcore" dog supporters/antiauthoritarians, suggested that the dog should have killed the policemen.
    • Direct Racism. Although it directly affects the specific societies, it affects the general class too. The prejudices that spreads, plays significant role in the degeneration.
    • Social Racism/Discrimination. This is the silent, and one of the most severe factors of the degeneration. This type of racism is very transparent and cannot be seen easily. This happens because it occurs localy within a society and none gives the proper attention.

Without doubt, such behaviour is not local here, but more or less, this is extended all over the world. Morality exists to protect the Human from the Human himself. However this seems to be forgoten or ignored on purpose. The majority of the people wrongly indentifies the morality as something religious or something that exists to decrease their freedom. This decline of the morality, has helped this degeneration develop.

The adaption of these is so much for some people that they no longer care if it is true or not. They wouldn't even try to think, as long as everything is fine.

I believe that the devaluation of the Human life and equalization to other non-human things, will not bring any good to the future.

I'm not trying to persuade you for something, or show you the truth. These are just my worries.
I believe there should be a balance on everything. For this, I dislike when people are extreme on their ideas. Usualy such people will try and persuade for something or claim they know the truth.

What you guys think of the possible Social Degeneration?

I'd wager people are not turning anti-social, that would make for a lot of violence.

Anti-social doesn't surely means hate towards others. Generaly anti-social behavior is when an individual doesn't do what he has to for the society.

That's a pretty narrow thought. I mean anti-social behavior can be for many reasons. Not just having to do with societal responsibilities.

There is a part missing in the degeneration equation; what do you consider the base from which this degeneration occurs?
Folly and fakery have always been with us... but it has never before been as dangerous as it is now, never in history have we been able to afford it less. - Isaac Asimov
Every damn thing you do in this life, you pay for. - Edith Piaf

I'm pretty too drunk to understand this thread.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

The root of the degeneration is something that we look for. I can't give an answer until we collect and analyse more data. What I can say is that part of it is the missunderstanding and decline of moral values.

Well for one, I could argue that the lack of dedication to the morals outlined in religion is one of the main reasons. But that is a forbidden subject here. Crime has gone down for the last 20 years in the US, not because of any improved moral attitudes, but because of a dedication to take the criminals off the streets. The 3 strikes law is one thing which stopped some criminals from doing the same crime, over and over.

However, the gap continues to grow between the rich and the poor because of one main factor...greed. We lack proper universal medical care for the same reasons. Literally millions go without the medical care they need because they can not afford it. Once again, greed is the main reason.

The love of money is truly the root of all evil.

No, I'm not asking for the root. In order for it to be degenerating, it had to have a base to be degenerating from. Did it start with Elvis? Industrialization? Renaissance? An infinite continuance?

I'm going for an argument of perception vs reality... Just trying to establish a base to make comparisons...

    It's all computers fault. ^_^
We all have been or seen that kid who gets REALLY anal for, "having" to get off the computer. Mix whatever it is that causes that kind of response with a little, "apathy and fuck everyone else" and there you go.
It's that or people are way too into selfish sex. lol

People have been complaining about the decline of society since there were people in a society to complain about it. What's so different now?

Anti-social behavior is not what you think it is. Anti-social behavior is, generally speaking, harmful. Both to individuals and society.

Yea but in some cases it's created through society and not just some pessimistic anti-social person.

    forced diversity
what you call racism i call freedom of association, and its a natural thing
we have become more suspicious of each other in a time when western society is being replaced
what you believe are your own high minded ideals are actually nothing more than egalitarian ideologies that you have been spoon fed all the days of your life

According to the DSM V(I think it's V now) anyway, as a disorder. Anti-social behaviour in the common tongue is simply lacking the desire to engage in social activities with others. In the DSM III it was classified sociopathic and prior to that psychopathic behaviour. It's quite a different beast as a disorder than what more people casually refer to it as.

Most of those things are simply due to society moving to a more urban high-density structure.

Tbh I think the death of Pontiac is what has caused all of this I mean if we could get a new Trans-Am and good smokey and the bandit remake everything would reset itself and the world peace might occur.

I can see the merit in your concern, and agree with some points made.
However, you stated within the first 10 words of the thread that you did some "research".
    Where are your sources?
Can't assess the reliability of any of this info until such time

That's called asocial, not anti-social. There is a word for it already.
