To get geared for SoO:

Well, if you raided Heroic ToT, you can pretty much star looking for flex runs.

If you are heroic throne of thunder equipped, you dont need to gear up anymore to go to SoO.

1. Yes, both of them are on the Timeless Isle, one of them requires you to have the legendary cloak, which is the epic cloak from 5.2, it can be upgraded if you made it that far.
2. A few, but most of the content on the Timeless Isle is just events and rares, cool little things.
3. Shohao is new, its a decent grind, could have been more difficult in my opinion, he only gives a mount, so if you aren't OCD for Reps being 999/999 Exalted, it really won't matter.

If you cleared Heroic ToT once, you probably don't have enough gear to jump into SoO. If you had regular clears and have a good 540 or so item level, you can easily hop into normal mode and start taking down bosses, especially if you can get into a group already pretty well geared. Heroic might not even be out of reach.

There are new bosses - two of them - the Celestials and Ordos on the Timeless Isle. There is also more progress towards the legendary cloak (finishing it), and you can upgrade items 4/4 instead of 2/2.
