    Faith

Does it have any effect on reality and if so, how much? Of course Im not talking about faith in god or any deity really. But for example if your family is good at math and it's like a family thing, does it affect you in any way, like make you think you're better at that than "mere mortals" and have it have real effect on your life?

Im asking this because Im having a sort of a crisis in my life now. I used to think my dad was the smartest person in the world right. He always had the right answer for everything but now Im starting to think that maybe hes not always right. so theres a conflict.. I have faith in him, I think hes pretty smart but I also think hes limited to hes senses and Ive learned to disagree with him about some things.

So is faith limiting or empowering? On one side, idolizing people who aren't as smart as you seems limiting but on another believing that youre more awesome that you actually are seems empowering and makes you work harder to prove others are right about you.

I think you're confusing faith with trust. All faith is blind but trust is based on experience.

Why is it a problem that your dad might not know everything?

How is this a real crisis

I'm only inspired by my family, I don't believe I inherit my family's intelligence, that just seems like an excuse to be lazy.

It is normal for one to idolize their parents and sometimes it is hard for people to realize their parents are normal people usually. Your father may be smart and know a lot of things but, he most certainly doesn't know everything and will make mistakes. Faith is not empowering at all to me it is more of a crutch than anything, and I feel this way in regards to faith in anything. You don't want to take the personal responsibility of whatever it is and are relying on, in this case, your father to tell you what is correct.

Well fine, I meant it that way though Like asking people if they think its positive or a negative thing. On one side it makes you aspire to be something more but on another it's limiting. So which is it really?

Most people go through a period when they realise that their parents are not all-wise and all-knowing, rather they are just humans like you and they do mistakes just like you.

Faith, like many things, have it's good sides and bad sides. The good is that it acts as a support during hard times, and makes us strive for things that might seem impossible but in the end we pull it off. It has also served to greatly limit mankinds view of the world around us.

"In life, I was raised to hate the undead. Trained to destroy them. When I became Forsaken, I hated myself most of all. But now I see it is the Alliance that fosters this malice. The human kingdoms shun their former brothers and sisters because we remind them what's lurking beneath the facade of flesh. It's time to end their cycle of hatred. The Alliance deserves to fall." - Lilian Voss

Yeah its just hard to pick. Science is a bunch fairytales, some are correct, a lot of it is completely wrong yet a lot of people believe in science without any reliable evidence same as some people believe in some god.

Unless your Dad is Stephen Hawking, you aren't displaying faith, you are outright delusional.

Respect your parents, but stop to worship them like saints or the holy trinity. That's very unhealthy..

It wouldn't be science if there wasn't evidence. What you just wrote its 100% factually wrong.

Can you share this science with no evidence?

...... if that was an answer your father once gave you, then with all due respect, he isn't the smartest person at all. It's on the contrary, he'd be one of the dumbest people walking the Earth..
Now - as I indicated - I don't know if that was your dad, or not. But whoever told you that, is really a shiny example of stupidity.

Trust me, Im completely aware of that. Don't judge me though, look at "your" science. Its full of fairy tales too. Misconceptions.. Its admirable that people try but I think they get a lot of things wrong too..

    This spot on.

While you were growing up and you were learning things you felt that your dad was so smart because he knew things you did not. Now as you are getting older, you are learning things he does not know or he has a lack of understanding of.

We all get old, our kids are always going to be smarter than us one day. Its life, its evolution. Just thank the man that started teaching you, thats a debt you can never repay!

Actually I think hes one of the smartest people ever. But I also think hes completely wrong. Science IS wrong about everything but its goals are right.. if you believe in science you might just as well believe in a bearded man living in the sky.
