World of Warcraft's community of today.

    http://i.imgur.com/xZLPs6b.jpg

(Read bottom to top, it's Outlook.)

To clarify, he was incredibly hostile towards his entire raid through-out the night and I had, had enough of it; I value my time more than to stand there and have friends and myself treated like vermin.

Passion is one thing, but this just screams like some kind of psychological instability in the person.

I would argue that this form of attitude is a growing consistency in WoW.

I just love those tough guys who ask for an address. Because nothing screams "I'm right" more than wanting to kick the other person's nose in!

Oh man, priceless - you should have trolled him on for lulz. Maybe get him on vent and record some of that rage, then publish with name and shame. Or even better if you could have captured some of his rage on camera and youtubed it.. IRL ragers shamed on youtube is great for their career choices these days when HR-depts watch social media like hawks

Lots of good opportunities to slamdunk people who get riled up that badly.

Based on what you see on forums and personal interaction from seeing it done to other players. It could be that with the internet being more global now, we see it on a much larger scale, but I never saw this kind of reaction/attitude circa 2005 WoW.

The community is just bored. Most of the stuff they're complaining about isnt actually stuff people care much about.

the community died a horrible death a few years ago, nowadays only the maggots feeding on the corpse of what was once the WoW community thrive

I'm kind and helpful to players. So I guess since I play World of Warcraft, I must treat people like vermin...

Not everyone is like that. There are those of us who do our utmost to help other players, new or old, bad or good. We do not deserve to be labeled the same as those who do not care about others.

    *sighs*

This topic again. There needs to be like a database of common responses for these kinds of things.

The community has never changed. There were always assholes. Its the internet. Vanilla or BC's community wasn't some special utopia of friendliness and compassion. There were simply less people. Then more people started playing. And more assholes began joining. And thus the assholes' assholiness increased.

Seems you completely missed the context of the clarification. I'm not labeling you as treating people like vermin, I'm labeling him as somebody who does. I'm very much aware there are people in WoW's community that are very helpful and have a passive kind nature, but finding players like that is harder than finding a needle in a haystack. Circa 2005 WoW, it was more common to find helpful/generous players.

    This. I couldn't agree more.

I don't condone what he did but you kinda egged him on. You're both dicks in my book, him because of his mental problems, you because you clearly just wanted to troll him into a rage.

I suspect my analysis is somewhat more accurate than your "woe is me the community is so bad"

Sadly, this. We notice it more now, but people haven't really changed other than in number.

Likewise for the person goading him on and then craving attention on a public forum.

This isn't completely accurate. I agree that Vanilla and BC did have plenty of foul mouthed disgruntled kids, but the changes to the game also helped out.

No it's not, it's growing in the WHOLE gaming industry, if not internet itself.
WoW has a fine community, i met one of the best people through WoW, and is still do.
And of course there are rotten apples out there, there are in EVERY game.

    This was pretty funny.

I wouldn't say that this is what the WoW community is like though with the death threats and all that. It's more of just elitist douchebags who think they're top shit and whiners who act like children when they can't get what they want. Granted, there are very nice and cool people you meet in the game but it's as if they don't exist because of how many douchebags are in the game. I have more annoying times than fun times when dealing with other people in WoW, let's just put it that way. You gotta wonder why some people want more solo content.
    - "If you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump, then you ain't black" - Jo Bodin, BLM supporter
    - "I got hairy legs that turn blonde in the sun. The kids used to come up and reach in the pool & rub my leg down so it was straight & watch the hair come back up again. So I learned about roaches, I learned about kids jumping on my lap, and I love kids jumping on my lap...” - Pedo Joe

The community hasn't changed. There have been shit-cunts playing since classic.

The only difference is that before cross-realm bgs/raids/zones your reputation actually meant something. Before LFR/Cross Realm raids, if you wanted to raid you acted like it. You showed other players respect or you soon found your name blacklisted and without any way of experiencing the endgame content.

Today you are anonymous behind a wall of hundreds of thousands of other potential players in the pool. The likelihood of you ever meeting the same team members again after a random PUG are nigh on zero, and even if you are a complete dick and get kicked, it's generally little inconvenience to find another group to be a dick in.

I had my life threatened in a BG in vanilla because I was afk when we were losing.
