Mullah in Afghanistan rapes 10 year old girl after Koran reading class. The rape is so severe she almost bleeds to death. His defense, "I taught she was 17 and it was consensual". Angry offended family and village wants to kill HER for the rape. The Mullah in his infinite warmheartedness offers to marry her.

This is one of those cases where I wonder what the fuck are people thinking.

2, How is the rape a 10 year olds fault? I mean there was simply no way she could have defended her honor.

I wonder if there is any way to get the girl out of the country. The 2 options that she seems to have, is either to be killed by her family, or to marry the Mullah that was capable of raping a 10 year old girl so brutally that he caused a fistula...I seriously don't know which is worse at this point.

In cultures like this blame always falls on the female. You see it in all small villages world wide to a degree, but it is usually more severe in Islamic areas.

Edit: Women are still viewed as inferior in small villages. That's why girls can't go to school (like the little girl in Pakistan I believe that was mauled for standing up for school rights). The funny thing is a lot of these areas have gone backwards progression wise. Many factors lead to that.

I understand that it's part of their culture, but it's utter bullshit. Even if she'd come on to the guy (again, even in their culture), he obviously went overboard and caused her serious problems. And then the (culturally-inspired) family interest in killing her for their own honor is horrible.

I'm so sorry for the girl that she was homesick enough to return to her family. Even if she knew they wanted to kill her for their honor, it's likely she'd still want to go home. And the fact that in the end she probably will be killed, either by her family or some asshole down the line, just makes it even worse.

I am often surprised that people are surprised that shit like this happens in countries where education is pretty much forbidden in some parts and that women and children are treated like animals on a daily basis. What has happened here is absolutely appalling, however shit like this has been happening in that region of the world for hundred's, if not thousands of years. It is only with modern technology that these things come to light and the world hears about them, However as sad as it sounds it will continue to happen for many years to come. The only real hope is to get people educated, however there are certain factions in the region who will do there utmost to prevent education as it is a threat to their power.

This is standard behavior. In Islam, the only way a raped woman can be allowed to live is to marry the rapist. It's not just in Afghanistan that this is the case.

Some will probably tell me that this isn't at all how Islam is at which point I will tell you unpleasant things to them and want them to open their eyes. You can to have a look at all the organizations that deal with child abuse in the world and they'll tell you exactly the same thing: this is common practice.
