If someone tried to kill you, failed, and begged for mercy, what would you do?

Title can't fit what I fully mean. So if someone invaded your home or attacked you on the street, tried to kill you, but failed, was incapacitated in the process, and begged for his/her life, would you spare him or kill him? While most people say it's wrong to kill under these circumstances, a lot of people in the news nowadays seem to give into their rage and end up doing the latter.

So what's right in the end? It's not like the police will say much if you made the choice to kill when your life was suddenly threatened.

I wouldn't kill them, I'd just find something to whack them over the head with to shut them up until the police could arrest them.

think about it this way have you ever gotten angry cause someone stole from you ?
ever get mad after a fight cause you got beat up?

in the heat of the moment when its you , who knows your limits better than you ? and who is to say someone else's limit is different ?

All in All i believe the majority would retaliate on the person due to anger of the situation maybe a set few would be too scared to react and run away.

but really think about if you had been robbed or beat up you know what i am talking about the moment of rage you experience as a victim .
it just so happened that the moment this guy was angry was the same moment she begged for life, still doesn't justify what they done to him.

when your life is on the line you can react and survive and make them the victim , or you don't and could become the victim

It depends... am I certain they're going to try again, or do it to someone else? Can I see a way to force them into subservience to myself, or get them to do a number of favors for me? Pay me money? Etc. etc.

Chances are I wouldn't kill them unless I was scared for my life/the life of my family.

EDIT: It also depends on if they've hurt me, and what I have to disable/K.O. them. Seriously, if you've been stabbed or beaten to a pulp, you're going to be running on adrenaline, and less likely to be so forgiving.

Anyway, I would call the cops and let them arrest him/her, I wouldn't taint my hands with their blood, especially if they're begging.

Well, sounds retarded, but I would offer him a beer and a talk, try to make a deal with him. If he's to dumb and/or has no potential, I call the cops, otherwise I let him go.
Unless you have some mental problems, no one would do that just for the thrill.

Depends, if I'm knocking the other guy because I've snapped it doesn't really matter if he is incapacitated or not, I will be too far gone to really care (tho I might not kill him but he won't like the end result for sure). It has to get really personal tho as I have a very good leash on myself when it comes to losing it.
If I'm overpowering my attacker without going berserk I would spare him (minus some disciplinary actions of course).

I have not mentally reprogrammed myself to have better control over anger, hatred, and outbursts yet, I will probably do something I will regret in your situation.
Ideal situation: I hold the gun at them and call the cops, cops arrive to arrest him/her.

Realistically: I beat him up, but will probably regret it later since I would be violating my own principles against excessive force.
