Hype gone wrong, your biggest disappointment's in gaming.

This thread is for the discussion of your own personal disappointment's in gaming, sometimes the hype surrounding the release of big titles can be overpowering and once the game is actually released you are greeted with mediocrity.

Just a few ones off the top of my head would include Mass effect 3, GTA 4 and World of Warcraft - Mists of Pandaria.

    How about you?

Guild Wars 2. I expected it to be very similar to the original Guild Wars and to boast an intricate and memorable story. Yet it was the hostility of the role-playing community and the temporary nature of fresh content that served to drive me away from the game completely. It's not a terrible MMO but it could and should have been so much more as far as I'm concerned.

Fortunately, it wasn't that bad for me, my worst was Remember Me, which I still enjoyed, even if it was mediocre and really didn't live up to the hype it had created.

    Sim City

Heard it was being made got really excited, it only took EA one press release to kill all my hopes and dreams for the game

Oh and CnC:generals 2, EA showed some amazing in game footage running on the frostbite 3 engine, next bit of news months later was it becoming "command and conquer" an online free to play game which again killed all my hopes and dreams off and then they cancelled it.....

The "awesome" raiding in SWTOR, and Illum =( After convincing a lot of people to switch from wow to swtor and then having to deal with all the bugs, disappointed me.

    In before; "Warlords"

On-Topic: Probably going to go with Guild Wars 2 as well. I never played Guild Wars (1) and all my friends hyped about the game, spoke a whole bunch about the exciting ways to level, how there was no "Quest to Quest" system, you could just run around and explore an ever changing world.

It seemed amazing at first, beautiful as well but slowly got rather dull and boring. Can't really put my finger on it, but I kind of just grew tired of it.

Same thing with Wildstar, seemed really awesome at first and gave a thought to moving from World of Warcraft to Wildstar "Full Time", but I couldn't even handle getting past level ~10 as things just got so boring and annoying at that stage. I'm sure my Laptop played a part in it, having to run it on low to make it playable, so I'll revisit it at a future date.

Yup this, I loved all the previous SimCity games I played the lot and then this clusterfuck came along. It's been improved definitely but city sizes... arghhhh it completely killed it. Half the stuff in that game is so unnecessary, only half the features are an improvement or even equally as good as Simcity 4 and Simcity 3000. Many of them are downright harmful or counterproductive to fun. I prefer SimCity 4 to this day.

I actually downloaded Spore to play on the flight I had to take over to London, was pretty excited to play it since it was one of those games I always had an eye on and never really got around to trying it.

It was a pretty big disappointment, after playing it for an hour I just switched on some Audio-surf and chilled the rest of the flight.

Fable 2 maybe, fable 3 surely.

    Does not compute.

PC or console? Anyone hating on Fable The Lost Chapters on PC needs to die!

While it might have been a playful comment lets refrain from the whole "needs to die" comment as it can be taken out of context and/or people think you mean they need to. -Lucetia

Warhammer 40k Space Marine, the singleplayer campaign was great, the multiplayer COULD have been awesome but the lack of dedicated servers killed it. Nothing like peer-2-peer hosting amirite!

^ This for me as well. I had 2000+ hours in GW1 but there is nothing in GW2 that connects with me... The GW2 forums are full of "trololol you don't understand" and "trololol you don't like change" but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one not getting along with it

Fable 3. Even bought the CE. Which turned out to be complete shite.

Exactly the same here. Wildstar comes right after.

Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Wildstar, and SWTOR. Blizz didn't do really good at the first two that I listed when compared to the amazing predecessors. SWTOR I was hoping would be an amazing game, but that along with Wildstar weren't my cup o' tea.

It is hard for me to fathom a bigger letdown than Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Literally the biggest hype train ever, probably one of the biggest and most hyped MMOs that got hamstrung by a variety of issues, but from knowing someone on the inside Jeff Hickman basically brought the game down himself by insisting on certain systems be the way HE wanted them to be. No feedback allowed, he had his idea of what he wanted and that was it. By the time things could be righted the game had lost its sub base.
