I despise political signs in people's yards

Is this even a thing anywhere other then the US? I am honestly asking because I see no reasoning for it. Has anybody in the entire world ever been convinced to vote for someone based on a sign that says: somebodies name, what they are running for, and most of the time, nothing else? Sometimes the political party?

Seriously all they are is for people to "Rep" the party they agree with like it is a sports team (An analogy that I have heard many times recently)

    Shit like this;

Or things like "Vote yes on prop xx!!!!" saying nothing about what it is. Nobody is going to be convinced by a sign saying that. If it is for "get out the vote!" type things, maybe say that instead of a stupid sign that clutters up my view while I am out jogging.
    You're a towel.

I agree with the "vote for prop X" things. I just vote no for all of those and usually make it known.

I dislike anything Republican or Democrat. I will usually kick those signs down or spit on them.

I've never seen something like that here - sure we have roadside commercials just like everywhere in the world but.. that's just a bit excessive.

Don't worry, they despise you too!

No seriously, people do what they want on their property. And, this way, you can pass judgement on them as you go by! Hooray!

    Uh...yes. Absolutely.

Not only excessive, but completely freaking pointless other then to let people walking/driving by know what "team" you are on in politics. Its flat out silly!

I'm probably more riled up then I should be about something so stupid, but its like my pledge to never buy anything that forces me to listen to a 30 second for pandora mobile; 100% needed in my life!

Seen a few posters and stickers in windows, But saying that if there were signs in gardens then the local kids would probably use them as fire wood.

I think the signs can be worthwhile- I might not 'change my mind', but I might take a second to check out a guy's web site.

In any case, if it's in someone else's yard, that's their business/property, so why not just be respectful toward them and/or try to not be enraged by a piece of cardboard?

It's actually not silly at all. In some places, people feel like they shouldn't even bother voting because it's one sided. Knowing that there are others out there that agree with them can get them to the polls. Additionally, it's a nice way to ensure that neighbors know to stay off certain topics, and personally I've met several new neighbors who just stopped to say, "I like your bumper stickers" (not signs, but same concept).

So you disrespect private property? While I think those signs are mostly silly, I would also think a giant purple frog statue in a yard would look stupid. But it is not my yard, so the owners can put up what they want as long as they are not breaking a law or local ordinance.

If you have to put up signs so that your neighbours know not to raise these issues, I think there might be some problems that you need to tackle.

Also the judge ones. Actually judge elections in general are silly to me. Why can I, as a completely ignorant of the way law should work in court, get to vote for a position that is in charge of it? I see like 15 names down to be judge, and its like, what? Should I randomly choose? I really don't care!

Where I live (England), sometimes people have signs in their windows when an election is close, but I don't think I've seen any hammered into front gardens or on verges.

    /signed OP.

I can't stand it to no end. Can't we pass laws that make campaigning permissible only on the internet restricted to certain sites only of course. NVM that would mean congress has to pass laws that force corporations to do something for the common good. like that's going to happen. In this case that would mean assuring internet access availability within reason.

I love how we talk about how extreme polarization in D.C. is hurting the country, but I'm seeing people instantly judging each other in their own neighborhoods based on signs on their lawn.

It's like the special cousin of racism, where we get to pick our own color and then hate each other for a whole new reason =)

I know! I mean, why should we allow free speech when it could possibly annoy you? It's too bad we have such a do-nothing Congress... Vote the bums out and let's get some guys in that are more dedicated to stripping any constitutional rights that might annoy someone!

An average person is exposed to 5000 ads per day. I'm sure there is a reason for it. If you see something enough times, It gets ingrained in your head. Soon you are singing, "You're not fully clean, unless you're zestfully clean!" on the way to work because your radio no longer works.

If you see enough of these signs, soon you will be discussing them with your imaginary friends, "Man, Dick Mitchell sure has a funny name to be running for senate."

When it comes time to vote, suddenly the only thing stuck in your head other than the insects you have been trying to get at with q-tips is Dick Mitchell's name. So you put a yes next to his name because you don't know any better and you couldn't bother reading about how he mixes monkey semen in his oatmeal every morning to have "beautiful skin."

You didn't stop to consider that some people might just think it looks kinda dumb?

Sure, you are free to put up anything on your lawn but it still doesn't look very good - I'd rather see a nice looking lawn and a garden, with maybe a cute picket fence instead of a line of signs? It just looks silly.
