I actually am religious. I do not feel the need to participate in practices that I disagree with though. If I agree with it, I participate in it, and thats why I dont think banning the hijab is a good diea, because quite a few of the AMerican muslim women that I know choose to wear it as a source of pride.

You clearly have issues with countries that actually do have a problem with such practices being forced, but the U.S is not one of them. If a girl wants to wear soemthing, let her. Just ebcause you think its forced does not mean it actually is. I mean yeah, there's some stuff I don't do because I dont want to lose my family, but thats me making priorities, of which my family is bigger than most personal wants.

I do not think using fundamental Islam to outlaw a practice for ALL of Islam in America is wise, or rational. Its basically acting on a fear and denying people that want to wear such things out of respect / choice.

Anyway on a more serious note, honestly I think a long term solution to some of these cultural problems would be to authorize unlimited immigration of women from oppressed countries.

some practices are perpetuated by other women though. Female circumcision and breast flattening for one, although I think it might help. I refuse to have my breasts flattened!

The woman in the picture didn't cover her face, so I have nothing against that. But covering your face entirely, male or female, in public areas is not cool. France banned hijab as well, not just China. I think it's stupid, because people shouldn't do that in the first place, not because the government engages in stupid behaviour...
