    RIP Twitch, Audio Copyright changes

    http://blog.twitch.tv/2014/08/3136/

well this is the end of twitch tv, nice going google.

basically they are teaming up with audible magic to mute VODs of any music that is being used, ambient music and all, cuz copyright.

live streams are not affected, just VODs, still sucks

    what do you guys think?

Automated systems like this suck, but its not the end of the world. Who really uses twitch for Vods anyways?

Maybe the people making videos could make their own music. Then they can decide what to do with it.

Is it incredibly stupid? Yes, but most people go on Twitch for live streams. People will either have to not listen to music on live streams (not likely) or just not put up VODs afterwards.

Basically you can only have yourself talking with no music for your viewers nor any in game music or your VoD gets muted? Wow I wonder how long till they do that to people while they are live streaming.

That's terrible. I have a feeling that corporate behavior like this won't stick around too long, though

because this is a start of things to come. pretty soon, google/twitch will implement a ban on anyone using copyright music. If a streamer isn't particularly liked, they can be banned for copyright reasons.

Streamers have been able to hide behind there subscriber status. Once they had a fan base, they could do pretty much anything because twitch was also making money off those people. Soon, some streamers will be in hot water because all the music they stream is copyright. Google has the power to shut down a stream without harm of the revenue it draws from that streamer.

it's just a matter of time before shit starts hitting the fan.

If it's just VODs it really doesn't make any difference at all. But if they ever make it so streamers can't stream copyrighted music (which they really aren't supposed to do anyway, just isn't enforced) then twitch will lose a lot.

Game music is not under copyright so long as you are playing the game.

You can use music that isn't copyrighted. You can make your own music.

This is no big deal really. Who the fuck watches VODs on Twitch? If they are of any significance, someone will upload them to Youtube anyway. Twitch will live and the whiners will shut up. Drama queens

I do not think Google are the bad guys here. They are only protecting themselves. Blame the music industry.

Blame the music industry? Blame the artists who don't want their songs used without their permission?

Just look at how youtube ended up doing copy-written music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhS_1KmCvmo Dan Bull did it better than I ever could.

The vast majority of artists just want their music to be heard. It's the copyright holders who don't want things used without permissions, almost never the artists.

This is just a test run before they implement it on live as well. Remember, Twitch is owned by Google and Google is over the barrel by the content owners. All unlicensed audio will be silenced eventually.
