What do you think the other founding fathers of Warcraft would think about WoW today?

The guys who made WC1 and 2 and 3 and maybe even WoW 1. Aside from Metzen and everyone who is left who was there at the start.

Over the years Blizzard had quite a few splits, one of which created ArenaNet and GW1/2 (this was during BC development, when there were apparently huge, huge fights for the direction of the game), another with Hellgate London crew, another where a bunch of people went to Red5 and make Firefall, so I guess it's safe to assume quite a few of the original peeps who were there for the WC games are gone now.

Would they be happy to see what Warcraft has become? Or would they weep silent tears of rage and frustration?

I think it's pretty clear who was right in those fights, then.

You can check out who still work there. There's a couple from that original team who have never left Blizzard.

Woops, and then by chance I read this: http://www.codeofhonor.com/blog/the-...arcraft-part-2

"Incidentally the Moby Games credits for Warcraft 1 are completely borked because they mix the much later Macintosh and 1998 releases of the game with the original 1994 DOS release, so many folks are mis-credited." xDz

(Incidentally, also, possibly the least interesting sentence from that blog post!)

Hey guys, in about 20 years this game will have spawned a franchise that makes over a billion dollars a year! Would have loved to see those reactions.

Some of them have taken public shots at the game when promoting their own games. Most of that hasn't worked out all that well in comparison.

I'd wager they have mixed feelings given that a lot of WoW's success can directly be attributed to their input only for that input to later be eroded away or removed entirely.

at first i expected this to be a thread about the actual founding fathers. i am sad. i bet they would be amazed by computers.
i also expect the developers who made warcraft 1 would be surprised its still going.
r.i.p. alleria. 1997-2017. blizzard ruined alleria forever. blizz assassinated alleria's character and appearance.
i will never forgive you for this blizzard.

They probably just try not to think about it, when devs have different visions they either leave or compromise I guess.. ANet isn't even the same people they were during GW1. Many GW fans consider GW2 a failure and terrible sequel.

Maybe it's impossible when a game gets too big to retain its original philosophies... gotta make dat dough mayne, even if that means making a game completely faceroll and using your brain a taboo.

They probably don't think too much about it. They left a game they didn't want to make in order to make one they did. We're talking about professional engineers artists and designers not television characters.

They would love that it is still going strong with barely anything having changed.

I'm going with that answer too, don't think they planned on being in profit a decade after it launched :S

I think they'd give a head wag and some stern warnings about opening up that can of worms. Either that or point to the "all men created equal" bit of their published work and remind everyone that it includes themselves and that their opinion is no more important than any other's.

This is what I thought OP was asking. I was going to say they'd probably be amazed at the technology and then terribly sad when they see the community.
