Yes, it's absurd and fetishistic, and twelve different other things you could name it. But it's just another drop int he bucket.

The general state of anime is kind of upsetting, honestly. Unless you're Miyazaki you can't make anything just for the sake of the animation unless you want to tank your studio into the ground.

    Where it says that ?

When you see a truly awful commercial product, do you ever try to picture the businessmen who made it happen? Who was the suit, on the 11th floor of some glassy, gilded skyscraper, who bypassed several security officers, took an elevator to a sterile meeting room, sat down with his well-groomed colleagues and assistants and announced, “Yes, definitely. We would love to produce a fighting anime about women smashing their asses and tits together. Very good, tremendous potential here”?

Who are you, suit? Can we talk? I have questions about Keijo!!!!!!!!.

picture this moment: the shaking of hands, the nodding of heads. Were they drinking filtered water when they decided that, yes, a sport where “no contact is allowed except using breasts and butts” was extremely good and, hell, let’s get some real solid animators in here? Scribbled on ledger paper over in Osaka, Japan, was there an obliging secretary’s notes on, “18+ girls, wearing swimsuits, in a dormitory, honing their ‘Butt Cannon’ and ‘Bust to Bust Attack’ skills, learning about life and love”?

I protest. I don’t care that it’s well-animated. I don’t care that the women have discernible personalities—no cookies for you. It is beside the point that Keijo!!!!!!!! was previously a manga. It could have died in obscurity. Now it’s on Crunchyroll.

Predictably, the director of Keijo!!!!!!!! was previously a storyboarder on Upotte!!, an anime about sexy girls who are also machine guns with a similarly immoderate number of exclamation points in its title.

We’ve increasingly seen anime that takes fan service as its subject, and not as a supplement to its subject. This isn’t a hentai. And yet, in Keijo!!!!!!!!, female erogenous zones are the subject, with a thin plot shambly plastered on top. The occasional up-skirt shot or full-body-pan is an expected, tolerable mainstay of contemporary anime. What I don’t understand is why, despite cultural differences, a lot of American anime fans see Keijo!!!!!!!! and laugh it off, unmoved that, in this show, women are valued at the sum total of their body parts.

I don't want to ban it. OK. All I'm saying is that if the entire reason you watch an anime is to arouse yourself, you might as well watch hentai. I will repeat this for the third time, it reminds me of the situation of Twitch Cam girls, in which people had an almost unanimous consensus that those individuals might as well watch porn or see actual strippers.

You're asking the wrong person about this show. Haven't seen nor read anything about it before this thread. Not my cup of tea.

There, to be honest, there is the issue that a lot of hentai is...uh....a tad fetishist.

See right here you aren't even critiquing the show. You're critiquing the people that watch it.....

That was the Kotaku article. And FTR, I'm someone who like anime, which means by necessity fan service. Even fan service heavy shows, like Senran Kagura, as long as there is some kind of redeeming value (while I did not liked DXD, for instance, there was still some kind of plot)

Which is what we were discussing?

I was attempting to criticize the show, saying it was nothing but ecchi shit with no purpose whatsoever but to arouse horny teenagers. Then someone said what's wrong with that, and now we are here.

I suppose the critique could be taken as "If you're gonna do a show that glorifies Tits and Ass, don't half-ass it"

  10. #28730
That Kotaku saying this shows sucks is not an attack on freedom of speech. And that show (while not having tentacles) is reaching ''Qwaser of Stigamata'' levels of pure fanservice.

There is a reason why the 3 episode rule exist, you would think that someone who pretends to have been an avid fan of anime would know of that common saying amongst the anime community.

You perfectly know the answer to this, you still haven't answered why that is a bad thing, why are you avoiding the question?
I'm still waiting for that [citation needed].

Yeah because there has to be redeeming values for everything in this world, gosh... duckman was a series way ahead its time (just started watching it last month), it went almost 20 years ahead in time for it's shaming of the pc culture and the concept of "everything must have a moral"
Cod has a new campaign, new weapons, new multiplayer levels every year. Zelda has been recycling the same weapons, villains, and dungeons since the 80's. Zelda recycles enough to make cod blush. The same weapons, villains, dungeons, and princess in every single Zelda for the most part. It's almost as cheesy as bowser vs Mario round 35

Redeeming value as in ''there is something more than fanservice in that show''.

congratulations on your discovery of another genre within the categorization of the media that is show.

Ecchi. IT's not quite porn cause they aren't showing you shit.

Time and place, sure, and someone through that out the window when they went out of their way to make people aware of it who didn't want it.

It's a touchy subject cause people take great offense to most things 'anime' for no real reason while:

    ...this...

was deemed appropriate to slip between TV programs during normal viewing hours on regular channels.

and get turned into one of the wild fads of a few months.

also, fuck fifty shades of grey. And most of the romance section in a book store.

People were verbotten from saying ''god, that movie sucks'' ?

Who sees ecchi comercials and billboards around or even adverts for them when going to see media outside the genre they share.

Fifty Shades was more in your face than basically ANY non-western media... if you were in a western country during it's release and fad duration.

Some obscure cartoon that you had to be shown exists via some gaming report website? I'm just going to call shenanigans.

"Time and place" bull shit. the time and place have been rendered moot as the example itself was removed from context and someone had to go LOOKING for it.

  17. #28737
You mean, gasp, that American media companies have more advertising budget than Japanese anime companies (in the USA) ?

But what if I don't want to watch hentai?

They're saying it sucks and insinuating anyone who's watching it and enjoy it is sexist.

Yeah, people are gonna get frustrated and mad about that.

Also not sure what's with the "Time and place". From my understanding, sure it's fanservice, but there's no nudity or sex.

I read the manga and it's all over the top but takes itself seriously and I believe that is what makes it entertaining to watch/read.
