    33 months in prison for man who pirated Fast & Furious 6

    I imagine he never thought this was an outcome. He made about 1.5k in selling it and it cost Universal Pictures an estimated 4.1 million (assuming everyone who pirated it would have went to the theater alternatively, riiiiight)

    i get their point, but it seems a bit hopeless.

    how much did they spend to get this man to jail, who only made £1500 out of it? and then what about the other 100s of torrents of the films?

    33 months is a huge stretch for this particular crime, especially considering its non violent... I would have gone with a hefty fine + probation.
    Two days later, he bragged on Facebook: “Seven billion people and I was the first. F*** you Universal Pictures.

    Yeah, bragging about it is kinda stupid lol.... I lost about 50% of my sympathy.

    The real irony is getting raped in prison by guys who look like Vin Diesel.

    The punishment is overkill for the crime, but we have to keep our corporate overlords pleased.

    Why are people saying this sentence is too severe?

    Shop lifting something over $1,000 carries a similar sentence in my state.

    I don't get this guy. He's a computer programmer, so he should know a little bit about computers.

    Yet apparently he didn't use a VPN, used his own handle to upload this stuff, and then bragged about it during his proceedings? This guy is either the worlds dumbest pirate, or the government spent far too much money to bring down a very small fish.
