I avoid porn. It's like sleeping with a fan on or wearing dark glasses, once you get used to the crutch, you're need the crutch, fan or dark glasses, or you can't sleep or your eyes hurt.

Sex and porn/masturbation are not the same thing, I wish people would stop saying that. I also wish people would stop thinking of guys as the only pornwatchers. I'm a girl, I'm married, and if my husband watches porn I find that more hot than anything else, what he's doing, and what it may lead to. Porn can be something you do on your own or it can also something to have a kinky night together. Also, I'm not innocent there either. If I watch porn it's not cause my husband cannot satisfy me, but because I just want some alone time, me and my fantasies. *shrug*

If you have an issue with your masturbating or pornwatching SO then honestly, the issue is you, not your SO. If for you porn and sex with your SO are intertwined and cannot be seperate (IE you need porn to have sex), then again, you have an issue.

Addictions are only really addictions when it starts to effect your life in negative ways and you don't have the willpower to know when to stop.

I love me some porn, not gonna lie, but I don't let it become all consuming, I just like watching a movie or photos of it. If I was someone who figured I'd stay in and watch porn instead of going outside and doing things needed to be done, then it would be a problem.

Everyone deserve time to treat themselves to something they enjoy, just don't become straddled by it.

Especially when you are suggesting that willpower is the only thing that helps someone either overcome addiction or prevent them from becoming addicted.

If you look up the link he has provided or any other information regarding addiction, you will find that it is the dopamine that the person becomes addicted to and not the act itself. Creating a chemical dependency and not at all a matter of self-control.

The real struggle with things like pornography is that it isn’t outwardly destructive necessarily. Furthermore that chemical dependency doesn’t ever really go away. The “addict” has ultimately 1 option engage in other activities that are deemed constructive or socially acceptable to achieve that same dopamine release. Unfortunately, that can and does lead to the individuals then becoming addicted to that other dopamine releasing activity.

If you have the willpower or self-control that has kept you away from addiction, more power to you, applause, bow… etc. But do not presume that everyone who is/was addicted to something has/had a weak personality. That is downright ignorant.
