    Are cordyceps real?

Played Last of Us and my friend told me cordyceps were real. Looked up online and saw many articles about them but...what the hell? Why isn't the government mobilising to protect civilians? Terrified to go out now in case an outbreak starts. Glad I live in the country since it gives me a head start if all hell breaks loose.

Yes, they are real. However, there is currently (as far as we know) no type of the Cordyceps fungus that affects humans.

Because they don't affect humans, only insects.

Cordyceps actually have many health benefits from both the mycelium and the fruit bodies. Also if you're into the whole we are all one spirituality mushrooms only urge that kind of ecosystem/relationship with human beings.

Some of the wasps that parasitize insects are pretty gross too.
