    new build suggestions pls

    hey guys.

my sister in law has asked me to build her son a pc for xmas. and i had a few questions i hoped someone would be able to answer for me.

i had originally thought of using a cpu i had already lying about, its a sandybridge i5-2320 so i was thinking that with maybe a gigabyte ga-b75m-hd3 or a msi b75ma-p45 mobo. but then i had seen the new anniversary intels out. so i picked up on them as the g3258 only costs about £50 but i had read to use this in a z97 mobo (an asus h81m-plus for example) you need an older haswell cpu to boot everything up and update the bios so i would recognize the g3258 ( so you can OC it). is this true?? or could i get any z97 mobo and just put it in and it will be picked up.

the budget she gave me is about 460 inc postage. and was also thinking the Sapphire R9 270X Vapor-X OC.

it will be used for normal pc useage and some games but the details dont have to be ultra, and a 500gb or 1tb hdd will be more than enough. also have a OS

was thinking something like this for a total new build without using the i5 i have

Well the G3258 is only worth it if you overclock it 4.0Gz upwards (need Z97 mobo), otherwise get an i3.

with all the postage charges its £495 but i love it... i take it the i5 2320 i already have is now crap.. cos if i could use it at all it would save nearly 90 quid...

The i5 is not crap, yes the i3 clocked at 3.6 is better but the i5 is definitely an option especially considering you already own it.

Not true. Some non z97 can overclock the g3258.

As always, if you get a board listed in those links, a BIOS update will more than likely be required
    | Intel i5-4670k | Asus Z87-Pro | Xigmatek Dark Knight | Kingston HyperX Fury White 16GB | Sapphire R9 270x | Crucial MX300 750GB | WD 500GB Black | WD 1TB Blue | Cooler Master Haf-X | Corsair AX1200 | Dell 2412m | Ducky Shine 3 | Logitech G13 | Sennheiser HD598 | Mionix Naos 8200 |

Yep. And seeing as the 4160 is still a hefty CPU for the price...

Its 455 with postage, or it should be, they are included as the link says. And yes the 4160 is better than your i5 for strickly gaming.

Question is if it's ~£85 better since he already owns the i5.

Also the UK Partpicker isn't super accurate from my experience when it comes to delivery fees.
