Major Breakthrough in the Music Industry

I'm sorry if there was already a thread made about this but on 10/8/14, Charli XCX did the entirety of Fancy without Iggy Azalea and it was amazing. Much praise has been given to how well she delivered the Australian rapper's lines in a song she was only featured in as a hook.

How do you think this will affect the modern music industry? How do you personally feel about this shift in the industry and what it bodes for the future?

Hahaha I'd love if it did become the norm to just NOT have the raps. I'm tired enough of "rent-a-rappers" in pretty much every other song - even if it doesn't fit and is lyrically nothing to do with the rest of the song, sometimes even contradictory. I'm pretty bored of rap now.

Eh, I think the music industry of today is mostly shit. There's six credited writers for that godawful song.

Still not as big of a breakthrough as the keytar.

pfff for a split second i thought i was old because i know none of the people the OP clames to being musicians, then i realized it´s "not my type of music"

so yes, this is a major breakthrough, or not, or whatever, i don´t care

I have never heard of these people. Also, what is the breakthrough and why is it suppose to impact the music industry?

This is sorta confusing to me.

I heard of these people and like the song. I'm not seeing what the breakthrough is.

I must be missing the big picture here. Some girl sang a horrible song live. And then?

No offense, but I watched the linked video and I can't see how that vomit-inducing song is a breakthrough in anything.

If you want good music, you have to move outside of the mainstream.

Honestly, the last (good) breakthrough in the music industry was the NWOBHM.

There's a song from a Croatian band that has a verse which describes today's music pretty well and it roughly translates to: "It's important that something plays for the hungry ear; that it doesn't offend anyone while he's washing or cooking; that it shortens those eight hours and that it fits nicely between two commercials"
And even though it's reached new heights, I rather like the restless nights. It makes me wonder, makes me think there's more to this, I'm on the brink. It's not the fear of what's beyond, it's just that I might not respond! I have an interest, almost craving, would I like to get to far in?!

Music scientists discovered ages ago that if you make the right mouth noises whilst reciting rap lyrics they become a song.

This is provably wrong, because if some mainstream music wasn't good it wouldn't be mainstream. Nobody would ever listen to it, it would make no money, and therefore not exist. But it does, and it's popular, because it's good. Pretty idiotic to say otherwise.

    OT:

Not sure what the big breakthrough is. People have been singing other people's songs/verses/hooks/choruses for years, happens mostly when there's a live performance and someone that's normally on the song can't make it. For example if someone did a song with Drake, and then went on tour, they might rap Drake's part because he probably wouldn't be at the tour dates. Nothing really new or interesting.
